I read somewhere that Australia is the only place on Earth where there are wild (feral) camels. I should like to see a herd of camels...

Yes Craft, you are correct. Camels were introduced into Oz in the 19th century to be used for transport and to help with construction during the colonisation. As motorised transport took over the camels were released into the wild and became feral. They have also been culled since. I have only ever seen one, that was way into the outback around Alice Springs, it was kind of strange, it was just strolling along next to the highway!
