dark skies

First night out with the big scope this year. It's getting cold out at night now. Next up, a few hours of stacking and post-processing - might leave that until tomorrow.

I'd really like to take a chainsaw to nextdoor's tree, it's blocking my view of Orion - you can just see Betelgeuse and Bellatrix peeking over the top of it. I was wanting to image M42 tonight but it wasn't coming out from behind the tree for another few hours. A different site for the scope next time, I think.

Norfolk night skies are good - ours are not bad at all but think you get more clear ones.

What's interesting is that the skies at the new house - in the city - are darker than at the old place in the countryside. Not living next door to a park and ride which has the lights on all night is a plus, as is being in an area where they turn the street lights out at 1am.

I do wish nextdoor would cut back some of their trees though. When I'm rich I'm going to build an elevated observing shed which should improve visibility quite a lot - not to mention being warmer!
