Don't take him lightly.

this guy is a pagan sorcerer, lord of winter woods, a smith who locks down rivers, cruel but just in a way, required sacrifices, killed people and stole children. Merciless to those who complaint and kind to healthy and strong. A feeble old man during the year, in winter he becomes so powerful, even the sun quails before him. He was invited to Christmas feasts to cajole him out of freezing winter crops.
Although, in cities he was just a person who secretly brought fir-trees into houses.

He and his fir-trees were banished in the 20s when religion was suppressed but brought back to life in 1935. Now he and his granddaughter do everything Santa does except for promoting Coca-cola, and not on Christmas, but on New Year's eve. This makes him welcome for people of all religions of the ex USSR territory and keeps the orthodox church happy.

I thought about my comment and realized it came from a very narrow, North American perspective. I think I actually prefer Old Man Frost to Santa Claus. He has better clothes for sure.

bfish says:

Santa Claus in not much older, by the way.
But as saint Nicholas he was ultimately cool. And definitely more civilized than Frost.

I still go for the pagan over the saint. Is the posted song for the musician or does Moscow have music posted all over?

these are his. when he plays it, his nose is almost touching the lamp post. not very scenic. a very strange choice of music too.
