Thanks, Caine! The Zebra finch shot was taken years ago with my first (and cheap) digital camera but it's still one of my favorites. You can see the female at the back holding a piece of hay: they were building their nest.

I don't know why, exactly, but the Zebra finch struck me as being Puffin-like. A very attractive bird. Wiki tells me:

The Zebra Finch, Taeniopygia guttata, is the most common and familiar estrildid finch of Central Australia and ranges over most of the continent, avoiding only the cool moist south and the tropical far north. It also can be found natively in Indonesia and Timor-Leste. The bird has been introduced to Puerto Rico, Portugal and the U.S..

It also says that they can live up to 15 years in the wild. That's quite the lifespan for a little bird.
