epic sushi feast

Salmon, swordfish and fillet of venison nigiri. The salmon is topped with slices of it's own skin, salted and fried until crispy. The swordfish was gently poached and served with dill and a beurre noisette. Venison seared and lightly peppered.

More maki than you can shake a stick at. The bright orange stuff is slow-roasted butternut squash puree, which was particularly good. Home-made ponzu also a success. Also sweet white miso soup to start, rhubarb (from the garden) and blood orange jelly with pear and mirin-laced cream to close.

This was for six, in the end. But there was enough leftover to make a bento box for the guests to take away for the babysitter.

It wasn't a particularly special occasion, but it's nice to have a feast from time to time.
