Enjoying some "extreme" cake
2nd Sep 2005, 00:14   | tags:,,,,

Helen says:

'allo!

2nd Sep 2005, 02:18

bronxelf says:

Allo!

ooo you have a stripe. I'd have one too if I let it grow out.

2nd Sep 2005, 04:09

tarquin52(tarquin52-at-hotmail-dot-co-dot-uk) says:

Is this the birthday cake?

2nd Sep 2005, 08:36

Dhamaka says:

Hi guys!

Stripe... and wrinkles *sob*

you are joking - the birthday cake got finished less than an hour after it got snapped *rubs stomach happily*

2nd Sep 2005, 08:48

kostika says:

You look georgous Dhamaka.

2nd Sep 2005, 08:56

McN says:

*waves* Ah, shucks, I missed a cake oppurtunity : )

2nd Sep 2005, 09:02

Dhamaka says:

Thank you kostika, but..

McN, I'm afraid if it's chocolate cake or sushi and I'm around it's not so much an opportunity as a race...

2nd Sep 2005, 09:12

kostika says:

Oh hush Dhamaka. Wrinkles and all, you look lovely.

2nd Sep 2005, 09:16

McN says:

sounds like a challenge ...

2nd Sep 2005, 09:22

Dhamaka (NLI) says:

?public sushi race? mobloggers to witness? *grins*

2nd Sep 2005, 10:07

kostika says:

I think you'll find many mobloggers will take you up on a sushi challenge. :o) (me included)

2nd Sep 2005, 10:13

Steve says:

Just woken up, you guy have been busy :)

I read that as a pubic sushi race, which sounds very odd indeed.

Dhamaka Fact:

Dhamaka is a chocolate cake purist, she removed all of the soft lovely icing and only ate the sponge!

2nd Sep 2005, 10:28

Dhamaka (NLI) says:

... Good afternoon, Steve...

Never done one of these before. Are we going to go for for quantity or speed? Personally I'd prefer quantity because I'd like to enjoy what I eat too...

2nd Sep 2005, 10:55

Dhamaka (again) says:

If you like the "soft lovely icing" why didn't you eat it?

2nd Sep 2005, 10:57

beth says:

dhamaka looks way cool

2nd Sep 2005, 10:58

Steve says:

I don't eat anything with a mum or a face, so I would be out of the race.

The icing did look nice but I had just eaten, you did offer it around though.

2nd Sep 2005, 10:58

Steve says:

She was indeed "way cool" I felt a little put off by here friend who was taking notes of the conversation though, I became slightly quieter.

2nd Sep 2005, 11:00

Dhamaka says:

I'm sure that most sushi chefs are accustomed to making veggie sushi.. On the other hand if you just don't wanna, if we do this we'll probably need an impartial judge or two..

2nd Sep 2005, 11:00

Steve says:

If it was to be done it should have different "classes" like boxing, you have the advange of being sleeker than I

2nd Sep 2005, 11:02

I like that word.. sleeker.. But in this case, how is it an advantage?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:04

Steve says:

you would be able to move faster due to less weight and wind resistance

2nd Sep 2005, 11:06

kostika says:

Actually sushi is veggie. sushimi (sp?) is the raw fish. Just it all generically gets called sushi. Sushi jsut means 'with rice'

2nd Sep 2005, 11:06

Dhamaka says:

True, but there are loads of sushi dishes that have nothing with faces or eyes or mothers in it.. Where's Kozika? she could confirm it

2nd Sep 2005, 11:08

Dhamaka says:

How can moving faster (and I'd like to put that to the test sometime) make us eat more or less? Wind resistance on hands and arms maybe?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:09

kostika says:

No need to get confirmation. I have many sushi cookbooks. They're very specific about the differance. Of course the cookbooks could be wrong :o)

2nd Sep 2005, 11:09

McN says:

"Let the games commence!"
I don't eat things that might kill me (ie puffer fish) other than that I'll try just about anything -once : )

2nd Sep 2005, 11:10

beth says:

mmm sushi. doesn't have to have anything to do with fish. t'way the rice is prepared. i lurve sushi.

2nd Sep 2005, 11:10

Dhamaka says:

Will you join the challenge then Beth?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:10

kostika says:

Okay who's making the sushi for this contest? I think we'll need alot.

2nd Sep 2005, 11:13

Steve says:

So just to confirm what does the "pubic Sushi race" entail?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:15

Dhamaka says:

I think we should plan it and have different people doing it.

Get numbers first.. the venue might be a challenge...

I've got an idea.

Give me a week and nag me. But I need to know how many people will do it and some other stuff too.

Will you keep a list of people Kostika?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:16

seaneeboy says:

That's a MIGHTY cake :)

2nd Sep 2005, 11:17

Dhamaka says:

Steve,

It depends on whether my idea works... I reckon it should be quantity rather than speed. What do you guys think? Where's McN?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:18

McN says:

I'm here! But I'm in Mummy mode; so trying to clean out fish, pump up bike tyres and keep tabs on you lot!

2nd Sep 2005, 11:19

Steve says:

that will be very expensive I think

2nd Sep 2005, 11:19

Dhamaka says:

Not if my idea works

2nd Sep 2005, 11:19

Steve says:

Don't get confused and pump up fish, clean out us lot, and keep tabs on the bike

2nd Sep 2005, 11:19

Dhamaka says:

Confuse sushi? Impossible, it's too good!

2nd Sep 2005, 11:22

McN says:

Ok, told the girls to gp out and play in the traffic for a few minutes ...
How about Variety rather than straight quantity?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:25

Dhamaka says:

Sounds good, we'd have to have 2 sorts of variety tho - one for Steve-type-veggies and one for the rest of us

2nd Sep 2005, 11:27

kostika says:

Well sushi isn't actually all the hard to make. It jsut takes a little talent and luck.

I'll bring the miso.

Yea I can a list of names if we get people actually willing to do this.

2nd Sep 2005, 11:33

Steve says:

A firm maybe from me, but depends on work sorry! maybe I should be on the reserve team just in case

2nd Sep 2005, 11:35

McN says:

I'm in, given all the usual provisos re timing, family, etc

2nd Sep 2005, 11:45

Joe says:

can I stand holding a stopwatch? maybe wearing a lab coat?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:46

Steve says:

a coat made of labradors?

2nd Sep 2005, 11:48

kostika says:

You can be my coach Joe.

2nd Sep 2005, 11:53

Steve says:

does he get to massage your thoat when you can't quite swallow? erm that sounds much worse than I meant it too

2nd Sep 2005, 11:55

Steve says:

or pet food.

sometimes punning, but rarely Filth!

2nd Sep 2005, 11:55

seaneeboy says:

Peonix... or dodgy innuendo...

2nd Sep 2005, 11:55

Joe says:

or possibly geekiness

2nd Sep 2005, 11:58

Steve says:

actually I think you will find that there is pedantry too

2nd Sep 2005, 11:59

McN says:

occasionally people have been known to post pictures!

2nd Sep 2005, 12:01

bronxelf says:

Personally, I find the stripe quite beautiful. You, as well.

Seriously. I wouldnt say that if it weren't so.

2nd Sep 2005, 19:40

RareAquaticBadger says:

Hey Dhamaka *waves*

Sushi contests are baaad... I went to this all-you-could-eat place (cost 10 whole canadian dollars!) and I think I was about 90% fish when I left. Ergh...

There are quite a few veggie sushi dishes as it goes; kappamaki (cucumber roll), egg salad roll, Inari (bean curd), Oshinko (pickle), yam roll, avacado roll etc.

2nd Sep 2005, 20:48

Steve says:

She has gained quite the fan club!

and rightfully so

2nd Sep 2005, 21:59

Gael says:

Flying to Canada might prove cheaper than having the contest in London, then : )

2nd Sep 2005, 23:16

Thanks everyone. I'll put you all on my help-me list for the next time I have a wrinkle crisis.

Give me a few days to see if I can sort the sushi-is-expensive-and-we're-gonna-needa-lot-for-this-do challenge. I can't start on it till I'm back in London next tues/wed..

3rd Sep 2005, 00:08

Dhamaka says:

Bronxelf, keeping a white streak white is more difficult than I ever imagined, but I'm sure it would suit you.

Kostika - how many competitors do we have so far?

Rare - thanks for that info - it means we can put Steve on the definitely-competing-providing-he-isn't-working list. I did one of those all you can eat sushi things in Chicago but the friend I was with insisted on putting stuff like chillies in, which kinda reduced my enthusiasm

3rd Sep 2005, 00:14

Dhamaka says:

Great you'll be joining us Gael.

Steve - she's a political journalist! And (whenever I looked) bending all her persuasive / journalistic / girlie powers on Roger..

Kozika. thank you, but it seems that everyone else answered the question.

Phoenix, does this distinct lack of sushi-based response mean you're not going to join?

Note how I'm not arguing the beauty thing. Thank you all so much for being so nice and I'm trying desperately to give in gracefully which isn't my nature at all

3rd Sep 2005, 00:22

Steve says:

People documenting my stupidity sets me on edge (unless it's me), even if she wasn't directing it at me it made me think twice.

3rd Sep 2005, 00:24

Helen says:

I can't believe this went the way of sushi and not chocolate cake...

3rd Sep 2005, 00:25

Steve says:

It would take her too long to cut off the icing

3rd Sep 2005, 00:28

Dhamaka says:

The thing is... and this is experience talking... if you eat lots of chocolate cake you get zits. On the other hand if you eat lots of rice and fish you get all the essential oils you need (possibly for the rest of the year) and don't get zits..

Steve you weren't being stupid and your sense of humour is as good in real life (if not better) than it is on moblog. But I'm sorry you felt that way

3rd Sep 2005, 00:29

Steve says:

That's ok, it's my problem to deal with, I had a great time and she was very nice, as were you all.

3rd Sep 2005, 00:31

Helen says:

That explains a lot.

3rd Sep 2005, 00:33

Dhamaka says:

*grins*

3rd Sep 2005, 00:38

rareaquaticbadger (NLI) says:

Gael> tell me about it. I don't know what I'm going to do when my contract is up and I've got to go back to the UK. An average (18 piece) sushi meal costs 2-3 quid over. I have sushi about 4 times a week!

Unfortunately, chocolate tastes disgusting over here. At least I'm mostly zit-less at the moment though.

Dhamaka> if you make it to Vancouver for your belly dancing/kayak combo I can direct you to a few good raw fish eating estabilishments.

3rd Sep 2005, 01:01

Dhamaka says:

Thanks Rare. I'll get there eventually, but they've told me I have to wait till next July for the Kayaking-Belly Dancing trip, so you may have to tell me by email... Trying to sort something else instead *grins happily*

3rd Sep 2005, 23:02

nige 2.0 says:

eye spy...ahh, but you look so cute eating cake...nowt to be ashamed of ;)

26th Apr 2006, 21:50

Dhamaka says:

thank you - but it's not the cake eating bit that's the problem

26th Apr 2006, 22:01

nige 2.0 says:

?

pray tell...

26th Apr 2006, 22:02

Dhamaka says:

not going there. Did you see my photo in the egoblog? I *like* that one

26th Apr 2006, 22:04

nige 2.0 says:

uh-uh...i'll look.

26th Apr 2006, 22:05

paintist says:

where is ego blog? this one is enlightening....you can be that skinny and eat cake wow

26th Apr 2006, 22:12

Dhamaka says:

paintist, I cycled about 90 minutes to get there...

but I seem to remember it was more than one piece

26th Apr 2006, 22:48

Steve says:

She looks great

27th Apr 2006, 01:33

Dhamaka says:

*blushes*

Steve, I'd kiss you for that if Helen wasn't looking...

27th Apr 2006, 07:13

Uber_Spy says:

*drrrrooooollss....yummy!!
