Fun With Movies is a puzzle game from an idea by monkeyfinger and bfish.

The object of the game is to work out what movie has been posted. The first person to guess then gets to post the next movie, and so on.

Rules of the game:

post 4 stills from a movie, or 4 images that are clues to the movie's title.

Keep track of replies to your post so you can tell when someone has guessed correctly

Let the winner know in the comments below so they can post their own!

taniwha says:

I think I've seen this too. Still two looks really familiar though still four seems to set it as sometime in the sixties.

29th Oct 2009, 10:24

munchausen says:

no, it isn't

taniwha, think ten years earlier

29th Oct 2009, 21:32

munchausen says:

that is to say it's set in the fifties

29th Oct 2009, 22:24

Taniwha NLI says:

Okay ... was Samuel Fuller involved?

29th Oct 2009, 22:49

munchausen says:

no

30th Oct 2009, 02:28

munchausen says:

time for a clue?

frame one is the actress' name
frame two is the destruction of 40 years of work
frame three is a guilt inspired hallucination
frame 4 is a practical demonstration of a scientific theory

billion says:

10th Nov 2009, 16:08

taniwha says:

10th Nov 2009, 16:10

munchausen says:

taniwha-i had this film on vhs for ages, so its possible
you probably would have borrowed for the director. more than anything else

12th Nov 2009, 03:11

munchausen says:

time for another clue. dialogue from each frame:

frame one:
-i've heard of her. is she good?
-she tries

frame two:
-you are cherokee
-i'm on old fool. you are cherokee

frame three:
-we burned children

frame four;
-the speed of light is always 186,000 miles per second
-point 395
-it got faster?
-we got more accurate
-then don't confuse me

taniwha says:

Hmmmm ... tricky ... a 1950's director ... doing what looks like a deadpan trippy comedy but ten years before the LSD thing

2nd Dec 2009, 14:32

munchausen says:

ah, no. the film is set in 1954, but was made in 1985.
the director's best known films were made between 1970 and 1976, but being english, tends to get passed over lightly in those "weren't the seventies a great time for film" restrospectives. and while i'm handing out clues, his trademark was a disinclination to use linear narratives

More guesses and clues!

15th Dec 2009, 19:45

muchausen says:

if no one gets this by the end of the week, i'll post something else

today's clue:

despite what you may think, marilyn monroe is not acharacter in this film. neither are albert einstein, joe dimaggio and senator joseph mccarthy.

28th Dec 2009, 04:59

munchausen says:

...and joseph mccarthy never looked like tony curtis

29th Dec 2009, 20:47

munchausen says:

it doesn't matter. (that's a clue, by the way)

9th Jan 2010, 22:26

taniwha says:

so, it was a Nic Roeg film then - Insignificance?

11th Jan 2010, 11:48

munchausen says:

it is, yes.
i was beginning to think i was the only one who'd seen it
