District 9 was such a satisfying character based fantasy sci-fi with proper satisfaying old testament type justice in the most epic, unpredictable ending ever that i've decided to re-create the entire denouement in citadel miniatures/games workshop toys.

Oh yes. this is the first conversion - the alien powersuit...

Cool. I have a Tyranid Hive Tyrant I'm still modifying. Great beastie, that one.

Thats awesome !

And from a fantastic movie. Slightly marred as I took a vegetarian with me who cringed so much at the buckets of gore I felt obliged to offer to leave about a third of the way in :(

Fortunatley the plot had her more or less hooked :))

Caine - are you serious? I expected everyone to call this a regression, but now i feel among great company! I haven't picked up this kind of painting for 15 years, but i'm already addicted - did some at 8am this morning. I am never up that early, let alone with a purpose!

EYe_C thankyou! Responses like that are gonna keep me keeping on.

In a lot of ways it wasnt all that gory and it certainly wasnt gratuitous... like the arms being ripped off and the the total dismemberment of teh bad guy were all there to tell the story i thought!

Swamprose - that scene with those words is AMAZING - sends shivers down your spine. I thought it was a given that he was going to try and save Christopher Johnson, but to watch the crisis just sealed the brilliance of the entire concept. That's what stories are all about, turning points. Too many sci fi films have sacrificed that for action and special effects. notably all every new star wars film completely misses the point of what made the originals so great.

Caine - you gotta post a picture of your hive tyrant! Are you converting it? Will you paint it yourself?

16th Sep 2009, 10:38

Caine says:

Dead serious, JC. I've been painting warhammer for ages. I don't game, but I love the painting and got into modifying a while back. I love building terrain too.

The dragons are my main models, both Warhammer and Reaper. I did the Oliphant and warriors from The Lord of the Rings too. The Tyranids were to cool too ignore though. I am going to convert it. I need to order a pair of wings (for a winged tyranid warrior) - I've decided I want wings. :D Yes on the painting, I do all my own. I haven't decided on the colour yet, but it's going to take a lot of layering.

Caine - please post pictures, I have to see!

Caine says:

I just took some shots of Damien 1427 from the Inquisitor series for you, let me see if they came out, and I'll get them posted. I don't have a terrain built for him yet.
