Hobo - collars are very special. We have a sort-of electric wire around our gardens and the collars buzz the cats if they go to cross the border to the outside world. Really to stop Ptolemy from wandering - he used to go off for miles and came home with a very burnt paw one time. Now he's wired in! Daisy takes no notice whatsoever of the collar and goes where she fancies but that's not far happily.

wow, I thought that would be against animal rights or something - a friend of mine had an electric collar for his dog and the police made him dispose of it!

It's a radio signal not a shock collar :)

Yeah, shock collars illegal (hurrahs) but there's quite the range of trackers & alert devices. You can even get them for people - an alert sounds if the kid or person with dementia, etc, strays more then (x) distance from the base station.

Someone should devise a system based on pet microchips so they don't have to wear the collars though. Even if not a bundary system then at least a scanner for catflaps.

Do like the idea of the wire boundary, it's like a feline eruv... ;)
