21days is all you need to break a habit. Your body needs 21days to form a new one.

I've heard a few variations on that theme. Which habit are you talking about personally?

Ha, where do i start?

Smoking. I manage roughly 10 days and then cave in, not out of any kind of desperation, but actually an eternal optimism which says, "hey, you've done 10 days no problem, go and enjoy yourself - just get back on the wagon tmrw". To be fair, i have succeeded in smoking a lot less, but i just havent had that 'clean' feeling yet - to coin a junkie term :)

And then exercising. I absolutely hate exercising and find it utterly boring. BUT when i do go, i can actually see the benefit and want to continue. However, i have ABSOLUTELY nothing to aim for. I cant imagine being slimmer or healthier or more active in any way shape or form so i completely lack motivation to back up the inspiration.

I'm hoping this 21 days will give me a practical, realistic and specific thing that i can focus on to benchmark my progress...

You kicking anything? I guess it is lent - we should all be trying!

I quit, and it was hard. I ate instead. I was told that I had to gain 100 lbs to do the same kind of damage as smoking. I tried for the 100 lbs, believe me. how is it going?

I ended up smoking all of the following week after i posted this! Haha. Damn right about the eating, i've had a real sweet tooth recently!

Now i have been 5 days not smoking, which has been fine. There's alsways a grim two days which i become totally and utterly humourless. I feel like my own personality has become a tundra.

Now i feel pretty chipper but have mild headaches. I fancy a friday after work pint, and then have to go and chill with old uni friends, some of whom will definitely be smoking. This is the worst time! When i'm at the peak of jumping the hump... it's so seductive!
