I make things on the web, mobile and in the actual world.
I've done lots of bits and bobs over the years, and right now I'm mostly working on this.
I enjoy speaking about things I like, most recently this. You can email me if you'd like, and I'm on twitter.
Ooh, when did they go up? I was there on tuesday and they weren't up!
They;ve got cool flatscreen things on the busses in italy which give you Metro style news, weather and your horoscope... and of course, the footie results :)
They'e been there a while I think, I know the company I sometimes work for took all of them and made Chitty Chitty BB fly down the stairs.
We very nearly had Crosstrack, which are very high powered projectors that project 48 sheet size ads on the platforms where the ads are now. But the company making the projectors ran out of money I think, so it was all shelved. Shame as I saw a demo on an unused platform in Aldwych Station. Great possibilities.
We have flat screens on busses here too? Just not all routes. Also the Docklands Light Railway has had ad screens for years now, not to mention some taxis have flat screens too. Also the Transvision in the major stations. Lots of digital ad sites in London...
cheers for the inside rundown jezz, god, I find out more here than on the BBC - so do you work for an outdoor company like maidenhead or something?
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Of course you are. How silly of me.
The flatscreens at TCR have been there for a wee while now - most companies are making good use of them, with animations which cross over between screens, as it were.
(oddly, it's the London Underground ads which are the least exciting of the lot)
The screens on buses annoy me a bit, though - all they seem to show is rubbish flash ads for colleges, and block the view out the front window, to make it harder to see where you're going. Escalator ads make use of the fact that you're just standing there for 30s, and if they're used in an innovative and engaging way are good.
Would it not be extra useful if they could broadcast emegency messages to these screens? In the event of an evacuation etc. all the screens could display a warning message?
I realise the escalators probably wouldn't be in use, but people would still be able to see them using the stairs?
Like, arrows pointing up, and the screen saying "Go this way" ?
Yes! Or a generic message saying "This station is being evacuated, please use emergency exits" with arrows etc.
"Do not run"
Etc. etc.
gah, just have isolated insomnia, Im off to sleep now though, read comics until my eyes glaze normally works for me.
Nah don't work for Maiden, I started up the new media dept at the agency Dewynters who do all the west end theatre stuff. I'm freelance/have my own company now, but still do quite a bit of work for them, also do stuff for BBC interactive TV. So I used to do quite a bit of stuff for outdoor.
