coming from this lampshade. I am slightly concerned. Not *very* concerned - just slightly.

Perhaps it's time for a new lampshade? Or perhaps a new flat?

I think it's actually the electrical fitting.

Steve says:

Then turn the power off, at the fuse box, not the switch. Leave the light on when you go to the fuse board, flick the switch or pull fuse (depending on how old it is) walk back to room, if the light is still on return to fuse board and try again.

If the light is out, turn fuse board on again, and make sure it comes back on. If it does the pull the fuse again.

Now unscrew the light fitting and check the connections, does it smell more in there?

are the wires melted?

get out a screw driver and tighten the connections if they are loose.

if it is melted in there you may need an electrician to rewire it.

Sounds good advice to me - should keep you busy Archer :) But don't think about developing the new "sport" Extreme Light Fiting know it would be bad for your health...

I'll have you know that I once had a part time job as an electrician's mate and I specialised in light fittings.

I hardly ever electrocuted myself...
