I make things on the web, mobile and in the actual world.

I've done lots of bits and bobs over the years, and right now I'm mostly working on this.

I enjoy speaking about things I like, most recently this. You can email me if you'd like, and I'm on twitter.

Steve says:

So you have one.........

4th Aug 2005, 16:32

kostika says:

Wooo Hoooo!!

(I use email on vodafone)

4th Aug 2005, 16:33

mat says:

Vodafone charge HUGE amounts for data transfer, iirc. Roughly 8 times Orange's prices.

4th Aug 2005, 16:34

kostika says:

I get charged almost nothing for data transfers. I'd have to look at one of my bills to tell you how much. But its barely noticeable.

Plus i have to use vodafone. No other network has enough cover to work out in the are I live in.

Steve says:

Oranges customer service has dropped since the old days, but they are still the best IMHO

4th Aug 2005, 16:35

seaneeboy says:

Orange data services fupping rocks... and you get 2 for 1 tickets on wednesdays :)

4th Aug 2005, 16:37

crickson says:

ARgh! I've left Orange for 3, and I want to leave them, but if vodafone are pricey and 02 are rubbish....

*gives up : (

4th Aug 2005, 16:38

Steve says:

I am still in the 3 month period of free 3g data usage, it will be hard to slam the brakes on a bit after that.

4th Aug 2005, 16:39

Steve says:

Crickson, last renewal time I told them I was leavin, they gave me the rather good Nokia 6680 + 18 months of free 200mins and 60 txts a month to stay! its worth haggling

4th Aug 2005, 16:40

Steve says:

Sorry Alfie, looking good there mate!

4th Aug 2005, 16:41

Euphro says:

*waves* Welcome to the club :D

4th Aug 2005, 16:43

kostika says:

Crick...Vodafone's data transfer cost isn't much for email. I send alot of pictures to moblog and barely even notice the data cost. MMS cost may be a differant story though.

4th Aug 2005, 16:43

crickson says:

I just couldn't stay with Orange - the e-mail function was so slow posts would generally reach moblog the day after I sent them.

4th Aug 2005, 16:44

alfie says:

Voda and T-Mobile charge 2p per kb on pay as you go - and Im not allowed to have contracts anymore as I end up with £400 bills :s orange offer datapackages that mean for £7 I get 3 mb, generally enough for my email requirements.

and Steve - sorry about yestyerday man, my afternoon got hectic - AND, Vicky is away on hols so Im arranging for your phone to be delivered for saturday morning, can you please email me your address?

4th Aug 2005, 16:47

alfie says:

@ crickson, Im using pop settings from oneandone - did you use

4th Aug 2005, 16:48

Steve says:

Oh yes! (Puts on big happy face)

4th Aug 2005, 16:48

bronxelf says:

*looks up*

Oh, hallo. :)

*goes back to work*

4th Aug 2005, 16:55

kostika says:

The data charges are much less on contract. My GPRS data charges for last month was 4.11 and I send alot of images in a month.

4th Aug 2005, 17:02

Helen says:

I'm with Orange. But I'm too dense to work out email on a phone.

4th Aug 2005, 17:40

mat says:

Crickson - Orange's smtp servers are crap. that's why I use a decent email provider. It's nothing to do with the usually excellent quality of Orange's data network, just their crappy mail provision. How hard it is to set up a fast mail server, I don't know. (oh hang on, yes I do - it's a piece of piss. idiots..)

There is always, but that only lets you send mail to addresses, not the rest of the world. That's pretty quick though, as your phone will connect directly to this server.

Kostika - ah. Well, that goes to show you know more than vodafone's sales team. They told me a flat rate of £2.45/megabyte, which is well pricey, and no other options available.

Helen - no you're not. Orange will walk you through it anyway, just phone 156 and ask them how. The SE phones have all got excellent email clients on them.

4th Aug 2005, 17:48

Helen says:

OK, too lazy : )

I could just get Beth to show me.

4th Aug 2005, 17:51

mat says:

That's better. Lazy is fine. :)

4th Aug 2005, 17:52

alfie says:

also Helen, you can just visit Sony ericsson email configurator which will sms the setting direct to your phone, all you have to do after that is choose your connection.

4th Aug 2005, 17:54

Helen says:

Oooh, good stuff. Thanks.

4th Aug 2005, 17:57

alfie says:

you do have a Sony Ericsson phone right Beth?

And dont we need to be sending you a new one too? or was that arranged already?

4th Aug 2005, 18:10

kostika says:

Yay for the SE website. I'd be lost without it.

Mat...The website has no info that I could find at all on their data prices. I had to look at my bill to figure out how much I had spent last month. If I was paying £2.45 p/mb I'd be screwed.

4th Aug 2005, 18:10

alfie says:

smtp out is the only way to do it on SEW, although you can get gmail, I found the same thign yesterday.

4th Aug 2005, 19:07

Helen says:

I'm Helen not Beth, but as super temping admin extraordinaire I can fuddle through this and sort of answer for the both of us. I do have an SE phone and Beth should have one soon. I think Mat was sent the address.

4th Aug 2005, 19:24

mat says:

I sent beth's address on to Vicky, sunday evening. But if she's on holiday, it might not have got dealt with.

4th Aug 2005, 19:31

crickson says:

Good advice, thanks!

5th Aug 2005, 09:54

kostika says:

For email I use the vodafone outgoing server but my own email's incoming server. So you may need to do it that way.

5th Aug 2005, 10:01

jaggysnake says:

I'm on Orange and use oneandone for email, same as Alfie and it's great - never have any problems at all!
