Apparently my boiler is due its annual Safety and Maintenance
Inspection today. Scottish Gas have promised to send someone round
between 8am and 6pm. Personally I think it's wonderful that they can
be so accurate in these days of modern technology, so that I don't
have to sit in the flat all day.

Hi teflon,

The reason that the letter cannot be as specific is that the engineer picks his journey and his appointments to minimise his travelling/do detours to the bookies/chippy/fly kip in a side lane during his shift.

I should know I have to deal with this complaint every day of work for the last 4 1/2 years

Ah, the good old travelling salesman problem. But there's no reason that the computer can't take a guess at a decent route too..

oh dear, I think our boiler's going to be replaced this week... we suspect we might all be getting poisoned slowly.

on the other hand, a few years ago, we smelled gas outside our house on new year's day. Transco got some people down ASAP, and they spent all afternoon and evening digging up the road, yet rejected all offers of whisky and food.
That said, they were probably on triple time..
