alfie says:

Having recently had a piece of toast with marmite and a piece of toast with peanut butter munged together by an idiot breakfast person, I have far too much of an idea of what that might taste like. Im really just pure amazed it exists.

bronxelf says:

'dog-- no. see, peanut butter and chili sauce and soy and lemongrass and coconut milk would make a great satay.

This is 69 cent peanut butter in jalapeno flavor in a squeeze tube.

There is *no way* this is not anything short of barfworthy.

Correction. it's $1.09.

Still, barfworthy.

mat says:

Alf - how did you get from Marmite + PB (which is nice, anyway*) tasting anything like chilli peanut butter?

Oh, hang on. I understand.

* please note, I will eat Marmite with /anything/. Americans - I know you think you know what Marmite is. You think "oh, it's like Vegemite". It's not. marmite - the facts

bronxelf says:

I still dont know wtf marmite is. It always sounds like it's made out of marmots.

Or marmosets.

either way.

alexis says:

" Marmite is a brownish vegetable extract with a toxic odor, saline taste and an axle grease consistency"
oh, wow, does that sound amazing or what?!
: x

I guess I've got another thing on the "attempt eating" list for my next trip...

looked online a bit to find more about this scary pb'n'go...

http://www.pbloco.com/ has "Peanut Butter with Asian Curry Spice"
http://www.peanutbetter.com has: Thai Ginger and Red Pepper | Spicy Southwestern | Hickory Smoked |

I think I spent about an hour looking at odd peanutbutters. I am whole-heartedly disturbed.
although the easy-to-transport peanutbutter is kindof neat, I can't imagine what goo they put in it to make it more squeezy..

mat says:

"The Welsh-born manager of Myers of Keswick, a grocery in Lower Mannattan that caters to expatriate Britons, said that Marmite was the product that her customers requested most. As for Americans, she said, 'they think it tastes like a cross between cheese and shoe polish.'"

Marmite is something of an acquired taste. To put it mildy.. :)

bronxelf says:

See I dont like peanut butter, period, unless it's in Thai food. So all of this sounds nasty to me.

24th Jun 2005, 03:01

mat says:

Marmite has nothing to do with peanuts. Oh no. It was just Alfie's comment that reminded me of it.

Ever brewed beer? You know the black sludge you add water/yeast/sugar to make beer from? Imagine that gunk will some more salt in, you're halfway to Marmite.

24th Jun 2005, 03:05

Geodyne says:

I'm not really a peanut butter fan, and I agree this sounds nasty.

But, peanut butter and home-made green jalapeno sauce or sambal oelek on a sandwich? My standard "I'm in the country and can't get real food that isn't meat" field-work lunch. ;D

24th Jun 2005, 03:07

bronxelf says:

no no, I got that marmite isnt about peanuts (if it were, why would Aflie object to the combination?)

I can tell already Im not going to like this. I don't drink beer cause it smells like old gym socks. *gah*

24th Jun 2005, 03:07

mat says:

Sambal Oelek and peanut butter.... *drool*

Now I'm *really* hungry.

Erm...no. That's just...wrong. And it sounds icky.

Marmite, on the other hand? Yes. A thousand times yes. But you either love it or hate it. A fact they based their entire last advertising campaign aorund.

Yesterday I noticed they carry Marmite, but were out of it. Thinking of trying it next time they have it in stock. Marmiteblogging.

Marmite tastes like very salty yeast. It's really disgusting if you ask me (but of course you don't...!).

As for jalapeno peanut butter? Gross!! :/
