Yeah, that type of architecture is very typical around here, too. I even used to know the reason why every additional storey is overhanging over the previous one like in the picture... But I forgot.

The reason why the upper stores are overhanging is that in former times, they calculated the taxes from the area you own. or the area your house is build on.
unlike today they hadn't something like "luftsteuer"
