some sort of red oranges we got at the grocery....not as good as i had hoped...sort of tasted like dry old orange oranges.

It was labeled as a Moro orange. I think there are several variety of dark red citrus that are called blood oranges.
I've heard they are great, but this one as I said before was dry, and bland.....and at 3 times the price, a little disappointing.

Yeah I thought that might be the case. I've honestly never seen them up here before. Though I'm always looking for new fruits to try out. The past few years we've been getting a lot more variety in the vegie/fruit section...though considering where I live it wouldn't surprise me if these were last season's.
Or it might just have been a bad one, I get a bad navel orange from time to time.
I suppose living in a major metro area would have some upsides in the fresh fruit department.
But I guess I prefer having a 2 minute drive to a solitary non-polluted lake with my kayak as an option. Oh and the millions of acres of uninhabited forest....though those are getting rarer even here.
Hopefully I'll get the oppurtunity to try a good blood orange soon.
When would they be in season exactly?
