The world's first programmable computer with memory - Baby - 60th birthday the day after tomorrow.

Built in Manchester. (Rebuilt by volunteers in 1998). Was used to test memory properties of cathode ray tubes. Enabled the refinement and adaptation of programmes on the fly.

(Colossus at Bletchley Park had no memory, but speed of calculation - the other property Mancunian Alan Turing saw as critical to computers.)
