Is that a Roland SPD-8 in the top right? Or a newer model?
I got a SPD-8 when it first came out. $600 up in NYC to get it. Don't use it much anymore.
Hii Ookiine,
that's the spd20. I bought it before I got the kit to tap drums into GarageBand. Now i'm bitten by the edrum bug, i use it for percussion sounds, vibraslaps, chimes and cowbells - you always need more cowbell :)
AHHH! A newer model. I think there was a SPD-10 after mine. Shit. I bought mine in like 1990...
As a drummer, I prefer an original acoustic kit. I wish I had a band to play in. Oh well. But I fiddled around with electronic stuff in the late 80s - early 90s. Since my best friend was the drummer, I played auxiliary percussion. I had a nice set up. 2 crashes, a bell & a splash, timbales, and 2 cowbells mounted. At the end of this band, I had the SPD-8 in the setup too.
Sweet setup, I've not really had much experience with acoustic percussion, I'm a total geek, so for me digital was my first foray into drumming. I hear all the arguments about elevctonic v acoustic, but for me, I treat it as a totally different instrument. I know that I can't get the subtle nuances from an electronic kit, but then without adding electronics, an acoustic kit can trigger loops or have wacky sound effects. It's swings and roundabouts...
There's also the SDP-S kit, which is a sampling pad.. I'd love one... but wifey thinks otherwise :)
Watched all your U-tube vids, you're pretty damn good with them sticks!
