These are very old windows - at least 40 years old. To keep them open we have to prop them with a stick. We had it open yesterday and while we were outside it somehow closed itself. The window looked fine, no visible damage but when I went to open it this morning the glass popped and a big chunck fell out. Fortunately, it fell outwards between the glass and the screen so no little glass bits into the living room.

Don will take it out and bring it to the glass place tomorrow to be reglazed. Eventually we will replace the windows in this house but it will be a complicated and expensive job due to the age of the house and the beautiful woodworking around the windows that we do not want damaged.

No way am I putting in a claim 3 months after buying the house. It shouldn't be too much to replace anyway, last one we did was only about $100.

All our glass is covered by the insurance, no costs to us, just got the kitchen window replaced, double-glazed, tiny crack in the bottom edge,

Hm. I'll have Don look into it. Meanwhile, it seems the culprit in the window stick getting knocked out was almost certainly a certain dachshund, who was badly startled and went arse over teakettles, crashing into the coffee table and/or lamp. He seems to have sprained/bruised ribs on one side, no paw/leg or back injury though. He's just moving slow and careful. Baby aspirin and no jumping or stair climbing and if he's not sorted by tomorrow we'll be off to the vet.

Update: Window reglazed. Bandit borked his neck/shoulder again. Apparently this is going to be a recurring issue for the poor guy.
