This is my personal blog, not a venue for saleable images. In fact, because it's here that I share things that are important to me with the members of the moblog community, photo quality's not my priority. Events, occasions, achievements, thoughts, trips and experiments - you'll find them all here. Contact me for the development version of my photo portfolio, for a selection of saleable images or visit my dance photography blog or my website for cuttings. And remember that all photos remain my copyright unless I've specifically said otherwise.

"Never to get lost is not to live, not to know how to get lost brings you to destruction, and somewhere in the terra incognita in between lies a life of discovery."
........ Rebecca Solnit

"Give, give, give -- what is the point of having experience, knowledge or talent if I don't give it away? Of having stories if I don't tell them to others? Of having wealth if I don't share it? I don't intend to be cremated with any of it! It is in giving that I connect with others, with the world and with the divine."

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.. you have no such accurate remembrance of a country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle...."
........ Ernest Hemingway

........ James Cook

"The grand show is enternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapour is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls."
........ John Muir

"The bicycle is the most civilised conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart."
........ Iris Murdoch

"Photography for me is not looking, it's feeling. If you can't feel what you're looking at, then you're never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your picture...."

I've a lot to do in the next couple of days - it's a fascinating place!

Caine says:

Fab series! I like all of these.

14th Apr 2008, 19:23

Dhamaka says:

thank you Caine
the books are all to remind me of stuff - hoping to get some friends' books published so I need some reminders

Caine says:

I take shots of books I want when I'm at the bookstore, then upload them to a book folder. That way, I can make a list before I go to the bookstore.

earl's court? I bet you could fit a fair few books in there...

I always found that there weren't that many books at the book fair! Not in comparison to the number of pens, sweets and mouse mats anyway.

Billion - a fair few. Earls Court 1 and 2...

Helen - I have to say I've stopped noticing pens, sweets and mouse mats (although IMO you can never get too much free coffee or too many snacks in an event like this) but the emphasis is more on rights and deals than the books themselves - you probably already know it's a trade event rather than a place to sell books to the reading public

16th Apr 2008, 17:41

Helen says:

Indeed. I was only ever there as a 'representative' ie. I had a badge on and avoided everyone (in case they had questions, nobody did) and eyed-up all the publishers as potential employers.

Was sort of fun, a good day out. Would be much more interesting if you have a book or an idea to 'sell', then you'd have something to talk to the publishers about.

I was disappointed by the lack of free books.

I miss my reading sessions of the BookSeller, I know it's online, but it's not quite the same (I don't think they have the column written by a, presumably fictional, bookseller from a small book shop).

Did you get any good leads?

16th Apr 2008, 18:11

nige says:

gosh, it's been another year. that has come around quick.

16th Apr 2008, 18:15

Dhamaka says:

two good and completely unexpected leads for magazine work! (one for photography) plus a probable book for myself, good contacts and probable leads for the friends I'm hoping to represent :)

now comes the hard work :D

Dhamaka says:

Btw Helen, I am also disappointed by the lack of free books
