hello, my name is al. i make music by myself and with a band called the fictive kinship. i work in an office in london on railway related stuff and cycle to work every day. i love cooking, swimming and riding my bike all over london. i try to eat well, write good songs and not drink too much. i don't always succeed.

here at december boy's secret headquarters we... i, laugh in the face of "proper" recording studios. ha!

having been massively encouraged by finding the tape-op book subtitled "the book about creative music recording" i now know i have everything i need right here. well pretty much. the tape-op way is all about making do with what you got and right now, december boy's got it good.

you have M&S; strong mints, which while not quite as good as Altoids, will do at a push. You have a rather fancy looking 8 track (is that minidisc or what?) an assortment of pedals and a sizeable amp! In what respect is this "making do?"

actually the mint box is full of picks.

well, i've always demoed stuff at home, it's more about a change of mindset. instead of geting passbale demos done here then taking them to the band to arrange, honing them live for a few months then booking studio time, from now on in i'm going to be totally self-contained. what i produce here is going to be the product. you're right i've got the tools i need (and some i don't - the sizeable amp was strictly necessary for blowing people's heads off live to be honest). it's really just about getting comfortable with the idea that i can create actual records, not just sketches all by myself!
