Because knitting allows you to turn a "one dimensional" piece of yarn into a "two dimensional " piece of fabric and a "three dimensional" structure: the geometry is interesting! It also allows you to play around with pattern, colour, and texture. Lots of people find it relaxing. And if you wish, you'll get a functional garment out of it!

And I see you're also teaching yourself how to purl :)

Well I'm no wiz at it yet. But I can do the 2 basic stiches even if my purls aren't very good.
