Dogs. Fiber Arts. Occasional Cats, Trolleys & Trains & Flowers. And other moments from my life that I find interesting.
**Motorola ic902 - Probably the best of the (poor) choices with Nextel for a camera phone.
**Canon Powershot A430 - Oh, how I love thee, let me count the ways....Primary camera - if it a good photo, this took it.

Dear Universe:

What makes you think I have TIME for this shit right now?? A failed hard drive was so very NOT on the schedule. You are fired.

No love whatsoever,

Yeah, so I get to here, get the spinning pinwheel, and then it sits and spins. I'd love to tell it what it could sit and spin ON, right about now. Guess I'd better call the new Best Buy and see if they are Mac savvy - from what I'm reading there are ways to get it backed up, maybe, but I need another Firewire-capable Mac to do it and certain software, neither of which I have. Closest Mac store is a goodly haul - at least an hour.

Did I mention a new Mac of any stripe so not being in the budget right now? And that this one is all of a week past the warranty?

ETA: Yep, screwed - see comments. If anyone needs to get in touch, use silar31 at mac dot com, as I can check that one online. Plan as it stands is to somehow get the data recovered from the drive, and maybe try reformatting. Meanwhile, I'll be off and on using DH's machine and I'm getting the web browser for my DS too, just to see how it works. Did I mention not having time for this right now? Yeah, thought I did. *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*

A week past? That sucks. I had something (can't remember now what it was) break on my PC a while back. Rang up the store who had built it for me and said "Oh, it's about a year old". Turned out the year was up that same day!!

Sounds pretty typical, I reckon they're programmed to fail days after the warranty runs out.
Good luck with it.

Bmal, just now did that - and it says it repaired the drive, but I still got bupkis. Looks like I need to buy $100US worth of software and somehow find a Mac with a DVD burner & Firewire to back it up. Hard drive is teh fuxx0red. Hopefully Data Rescue will recover the data, otherwise I am screwed.

might not be the drive. data might be intact. I had a similar problem, and it was a failure in the logic board (same word for motherboard except in appletalk). Because there have been massive failures in G3s and some G4s, they replaced it for free, and no change in disk. data intact. just because it won't boot, doesn't mean the disk is over. hope this helps.
