jetblacknewmoblog: thanks dude! i'm glad of all this practice!
x
thanks chocolate - really nice of you to say
i think i'm getting better - i can't believe i got into photography so late - i wish i bought this SLR months ago! if not years!!!
x
You've only just started photography? Fuck me! I hope it seems this easy when I get my SLR in... *counts on fingers* 7 days! What lens? Do you mostly have it on auto?
jetblacknewmoblog:
hi yeah - only had my SLR about 2 months - its been a hard slog though - i think these have come out really well cos i'm now so used to the venue and the lighting that i've been able to play around with it quite a while now. (i go there once a week). and try different things each week.
like i set myself tasks - like one week i decided to just concentrate on long exposure shots...and the next week say i just wanted harsh flash shots of peoples faces...
No - i dont have it on Auto - quite the opposite...thats how i've found it easier to learn - by making a hell of alot of mistakes! ha ha - go straight to Manual and stick with it - i promise its better than cheating.
i have a Canon EOS 350D (with kit lens) and also a f1.8 50mm Canon fixed lens.
fixed lens was used for the close up shots you see here - and i've bounced the light off the ceiling. its a great lens for low light cos its a really wide aperture.
i use the kit lens - which is actually really versatile, for crowd shots and what i call live shots - ie: people dancing! cos i can obviously zoom in and out with that.
i also have a very good friend who taught me the basics - like what aperture actually is! what a shutter speed means! - cos i was a complete newbie..... but mostly its all about practice.
and making it fun
x
how would you describe aperture in simpleton terms then?!? :oP i didn't think it were possible!
jetblack:
ha ha
i think about it this way:
Bigger Aperture = more light = therefore better photos at gigs
although to get more light in - you also have to have your shutter speed quite slow to let in 'as much' light for 'as long as' possible.
but here you have problems with blurring as people obviously move in the time it takes for the picture to take.
its all about compromise!

hey carrie.
he's my friend simon...at least there's two guys in headphones - but i'm guessing you're asking about him - everyone does.
he's the resident DJ and founder of Sex With Robots in Manchester.
a
i want his headphones. i have a thing for headphones ever since natalie portman graced us with hers in Garden State!
