Occassionally these cattle come walking down the main street. The cattle stations sometime dont have fences, and even if they do, they put them on the roads to eat the grass on the verges.

so driving at night, you just might find a Brahma bull in your headlights?

Thanks D.

Well sr, that exact same situation happened to me last October. If you reguarly drive at night, its just a matter of when you hit one, not if. Unfortunately I wasn't carrying the chainsaw and the engel (portable fridge) at the time:(

how did I guess? same thing here. except it's a moose you don't want to hit.

Jigalong says:

We have different strength fenders at the front of the utes, to limit the damage done. The roo bar and the bull bar.

Do you have a moose bar fitted on your utes?

we used to have to dodge cows and sheep - not quite the same - occasionally a deer crosses our path - but they are usually small

I have to watch for the wallabys and kangaroos as well as the odd wombat. Hit one of those and its like you've hit a brick wall. The rump of a wambat is solid bone and the front and underside of the car is a right-off.

Jigalong says:

Makes you wonder why we even bother going out for a drive with all these dangers

swamprose says:

we just run things over and hope the car is isn't wrecked. mostly skunks, squirrels, raccoons.

you just don't see a whole lot of moose on the road. they are shy and like swamps, not roads.

worst is a skunk. your car smells for a long time.

ISn't there an expression that goes something like' nature's a nice place to visit, but I don't want it all over my car' (cynical groan!)
