Leeds - Liverpool Canal

Today we drove to a friends at Apperley Bridge, we then cycled to Skipton. It was really quite breezy! It is a lovely stretch. Too many people about to take any good pics, we saw lots of nesting swans and a few toads too. For part of the time we were indeed following Route 69

JokerXL says:

Damn, that's a steep hill for a canal to try to get over!
Did you cover 42 miles today?
Well done that Vixen!

Dhamaka says:

wow that looks nice
If only we lived closer I could join you

FilbertFox says:

Yes Joker, there and back. Got to Skipton eat our snap on the tow path and headed back. And it is steep, there are 28 locks between Leeds and Skipton, we did 16 of em today! That group of 5 is spectacular, unfortunately i judged my gear change wrongly at the bottom and didn't make it up them.

D - yes it is a shame, it is a lovely canal. And just to think, if my clever optician had not managed to sort me out some contact lenses, i would not be able to cycle it at all.

factotum says:

Nice series! I like the one taken from the top of the locks, looking down the hill.

FilbertFox says:

Sprocket - not just me, I was with BaggieBoy and there were loads of other cyclists and walkers too. I was a veritable orgy of outdoor pursuits

FilbertFox says:

Factotum - ta muchly. It was a shame there were so many other people enjoying the easter sunday sunshine to stop me taking more pics

everyday i confirm that, for the pictures i see on moblogs, england is beautiful,
your pictures tell it

8th Apr 2007, 21:59

FilbertFox says:

Azulcita - thank you! And yes much of England is very very beautiful. Of course it is densely populated so we do have large and sometimes ugly towns and cities. This canal goes through some of the best and worst of the north of Engalnd.

nice shooting, well done on the distance! how's the ankle?

8th Apr 2007, 22:52

FilbertFox says:

The ankle is fine thanks P'hobo. It never complains when i cycle, which is more than i can say for my situpon this morning. Will take it easy today and maybe head up to Temple Newsam or somewhere close to home.

were the articles at all helpful?

10th Apr 2007, 00:30

FilbertFox says:

They were Mr Hobo sir! I believe i was off for my 1st physio appointment the day you sent them. That was an experience and a half! A fight broke out on the bus, there to which the police had to be called! I was too late for my appointment.

Viv says:

like the pic of the locks and looking back to saltaire

are you losing weight with all this exercise or eating to make up for it?

10th Apr 2007, 13:24

tut tut starting fights on buses isn't going to get your ankle better!

10th Apr 2007, 13:53

factotumNLI says:

I know about Saltaire! from reading my U.K. Guide books...

10th Apr 2007, 15:45

FilbertFox says:

Thanks chaps!

Viv - no i am putting weight on! I blame it on my bad ankle, i have gone from exercising most days to just cycling at the weekend. Lack of exercise always makes me eat more, so it's a double bugger really.

Mr Hobo - no, but it was fun. I was going to a scary part of Leeds. Next appointment is 8 a.m. so BB can give me a lift and stand guard.

Factotum - i really enjoyed the path through Saltaire, the buildings are lovely. trouble is i didn't want to stop on the way out and break my rhythm, and there were loads of people in the way on the return journey. Oh well, next time
