540air says:

hmmmmm that could be good. As long as it has a decent camera :)

chris says:

2 megapixel apparently (which admittedly doesn't mean it's any good).

automatically senses landscape and portrait, only 1 button for home.

All looks rather spangly:

Wow, it's huge!

"works like magic" - oh, Apple's marketing department... :)

I wonder who they bought the touch technology off? It's just that Fingerworks, who did stuff like this and did a zero-force keyboard I wanted, recently got bought by someone (and stopped doing the ZF keyboard, the bastards).

One google later - Apple own Fingerworks. Dammit. Now I'll never get the keyboard I want.

Jesus Fucking christ. I HATE YOU!

I switched off my RSS feeds, stopped going to my usual blogs/sites and was going to wait a few hours for the Quicktime stream once it was all over.

But no, i had to check MBuk, didn't think someone would blog about it. Cheers for the spoiler.

Now im going to go cry. thanks.

chris says:

Kinda spec summary:

"Sweet, glorious specs of the 11.6 millimeter device (that's frickin' thin, by the way) include a 3.5-inch wide touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the sensor when it's close to your face, 2 megapixel cam, 4GB or 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, WiFi that automatically engages when in range, and quadband GSM radio with EDGE. Perhaps most amazingly, though, it somehow runs OS X with support for Widgets, Google Maps, and Safari, and iTunes (of course) with CoverFlow out of the gate. A partnership with Yahoo will allow all iPhone customers to hook up with free push IMAP email. Apple quotes 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, with a full 16 hours in music mode"

From Engadget.

Looks great, hope the screen doesn't scratch...

afternoon(afternoon-at-uk2-dot-net) says:

The keyboard tech is their own I think. They've been sneakily patenting bits relating to multi-touch sensor materials for a while.

I've wanted this device since I was a kid. It's remarkably close to the ideal I've had in my head for a long, long time.

Where do I stuff the wad of bills?!

beth says:

it does look huge. took them long enough, i hope it's good

9th Jan 2007, 21:01

chris says:

Yeah, a few things stand out straight away - it's big, the battery life isn't amazing, and past experience with a PDA tells me they can get pretty dirty with prolonged... erm... use of the finger.

However, it is does everything it says it does, as well as they say it will, then it's going to be damn popular.

9th Jan 2007, 21:10

chris says:

Oh yeah, and no 3G so no wireless downloads?

9th Jan 2007, 21:24

no, but wifi and that's the future ;)

9th Jan 2007, 23:00

Plinko says:

I read about this today, the main selling feature is that Apple made it and so people who like names will buy it...

9th Jan 2007, 23:24

afternoon says:

Doubt it will be that popular, probably will be too expensive to go properly mainstream.

Plinko: Yeah, Apple people will buy it because it's yet another part of the Groovy Apple Future. But the Groovy Apple Future is real! Join us! Join us!

chris says:

I honestly think if it works as they say it does, it'll be huge. (I want one, and the only reason I bought my K800 is because of the camera).

The main selling feature is that it kicks ass Plinko ;)

At the very least, this is going to give other phone manufacturers a kick up the arse.

crickson says:

I quite fancy one too. It is certainly the product I've been waiting for from Apple.

10th Jan 2007, 10:00

i have to say it looks good - I would definitely be worried about the screen getting scratched etc as phones are for pockets after all!

As a apple-lover, IWOOT!

10th Jan 2007, 10:22

Actually, I want one like this!
