We were testing to make sure that TV would still go out if, say, a
digger cut through a feed to a transmitter - by simulating what would
happen if the feed to all the transmitters was cut (though we
didn't use a digger). The red things are the important plugs, so we pulled them out. The man
running the test had people at various transmitters to tell him what
the pictures looked like, but we were also keeping track of various
'enthusiast' websites where people were, quite helpfully, posting
screengrabs, so we could see what it looked like.

Would have been more fun with a digger. ;-)

True, but given that we had to make it all work again at the end of the hour, probably a bit more challenging to fix :)

National Grid, who have a fibre optic network which follows their power lines, apparently have a problem with farmers shooting the lines down - because NG have to pay the farmers large access fees to get to the fields to do the repairs.

agree with OJ, the digger should have been employed
