This is my personal blog, not a venue for saleable images. In fact, because it's here that I share things that are important to me with the members of the moblog community, photo quality's not my priority. Events, occasions, achievements, thoughts, trips and experiments - you'll find them all here. Contact me for the development version of my photo portfolio, for a selection of saleable images or visit my dance photography blog or my website for cuttings. And remember that all photos remain my copyright unless I've specifically said otherwise.

"Never to get lost is not to live, not to know how to get lost brings you to destruction, and somewhere in the terra incognita in between lies a life of discovery."
........ Rebecca Solnit

"Give, give, give -- what is the point of having experience, knowledge or talent if I don't give it away? Of having stories if I don't tell them to others? Of having wealth if I don't share it? I don't intend to be cremated with any of it! It is in giving that I connect with others, with the world and with the divine."

........ James Cook

"The grand show is enternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapour is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls."
........ John Muir

"The bicycle is the most civilised conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart."
........ Iris Murdoch

"Photography for me is not looking, it's feeling. If you can't feel what you're looking at, then you're never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your picture...."

... did I tell you that?

This is the last interview / research on a piece I have to finish for tomorrow for Dance Today. These shots won't make it to the mag...

I first went to Sajjad Afzal a few years ago and it's his advice and inserts that enables me to walk and dance mostly without pain.

Payback time - now I can write something that will benefit him through PR as well as benefit my readers. I love it when this happens.

This is the piece I wrote for Dance Today and I have other pitches out

He practices href="http://www.londonspineclinic.com" target="_blank">here two days a week

This is his main site

540air says:

Is he trying to sell you artificial feet?

I'm sure I have a contact for that sort of thing ;)

silar31 says:

I'm guessing a podiatrist or pedorthist making custom orthotics for dance shoes?

26th Oct 2006, 23:15

Dhamaka says:

I inherited bad feet Mandy - no worries

540 - maybe I should find a way to interview you about your work...

Silar - near enough bang on. A podiatrist who specialises in dance and performance sports

26th Oct 2006, 23:20

540air says:

Some of the things I've seen would put people off going anywhere near hospitals, but would also make you chuckle for the silliness too!! :D
That could be quite fun doing an interview.

26th Oct 2006, 23:23

Dhamaka says:

cool - remind me mid November if I've not got back to you

26th Oct 2006, 23:26

540air says:

Sure, will do :)

26th Oct 2006, 23:38

Jigalong says:

That sole of the shoe, differently looks too big for that foot.

27th Oct 2006, 06:55

Dhamaka says:

Yes Jigalong, but you can see how well it is supported because the bones stay up on their own - if you look at the shot with the two supports, the other skeletal foot has fallen to the side because it's on a support that's wrong for it

(been working on this piece all night.. back to work now..)

27th Oct 2006, 07:58

Sprocket says:

Hurrah for Mr Footsy!

27th Oct 2006, 10:25

paintist says:

I love pic 4 he looks such a lovely bloke.....I can't bear anyone to touch my feet....but mmmm I would 'think' about it....

27th Oct 2006, 10:30

Dhamaka says:

He's a real sweetie Paintist. Really friendly and explains everything clearly and loves his job.

We got into an 'i get up earlier than you' conversation and when he said he was up around 4:30 I thought it was his kids, but it turned out that he is still in the Ramadam habit, where you get up whenever necessary because you know you're not going to eat again till it's dark again

27th Oct 2006, 10:45

Sprocket says:

It sucks not being able to eat until after sunset – religion has a lot to answer for.

*brushes chocolate cake crumbs away from his mouth whilst looking out the window at the gloriously sunny day*

27th Oct 2006, 11:39

FilbertFox says:

i need to go a see one of them there clever folk. feet run in our family too (sorry) and i want to be able to run again.

27th Oct 2006, 13:35

silar31 says:

FF, it's worth going if you need to - I did to get treatment for plantar fasciitis aka heel spurs and in the process got put together with proper shoes and orthotics - and walking is SO much better now, not to mention standing for any length of time.

27th Oct 2006, 17:15

Dhamaka says:

FF - if you do need to go, look for a state registered practitioner as the name 'podiatrist' can be used by anyone..

27th Oct 2006, 18:04

MaggieD says:

Well I must say he looks like a happy chappie .... it is good to love your job .... certainly helps with the quality of life (as long as you do not let it take over) .......

27th Oct 2006, 18:09

Dhamaka says:

that's a sticky one Maggie, when you write about what you love doing and love doing what you write about, where's the line?

27th Oct 2006, 18:10

MaggieD says:

I suppose it is all about getting a balance .... if you have family, then balancing work and family so that neither lose out ... if you have no other commitments then making sure that you get some 'Time Out' when you can recharge batteries etc ... it is a very personal thing .....

27th Oct 2006, 18:18

Dhamaka says:

I've never managed the b- word. Full speed ahead or complete stop, I'm afraid..

27th Oct 2006, 18:41

MaggieD says:

Oh dear .... but I suspect (hope!)that you do have some 'calming influences' around you ..... I know you are much loved and cared about :-) ......

27th Oct 2006, 18:48

Dhamaka says:

:-)
I'm privileged to have such wonderful friends

*looks under desk, behind self, in kitchen to see where 'calming influences' might be emanating from..... nope... mostly they just laugh :D

27th Oct 2006, 18:49

MaggieD says:

:-D .......

27th Oct 2006, 18:55

Viv says:
