OJ says:

Did you know that Pink Lady apples are the first cultivar to be trademarked - by a US corporation.

I've had a few but I just don't think it's right to trademark varieties of fruit and vegetables - especially as I know that even less of what I'm paying goes to the grower than usual. As well as the supermarkets, distributors etc. taking a cut, you've got the trademark holders taking a cut to contribute to the "brand equity".

If you can get hold of them Cripps Pink are the same variety, but not tradmarked. I bet you can't get hold of them though.

Twiglet says:

ASDA sell Cripps pink when they are in season as part of their "Smart price" range. A bag of 6 to 8 apples for 66p. I have just finished the last one from last Friday's shopping.

OJ says:

Cool, thank you Twiglet!

Dhamaka says:

they're not bad apples either

spongevid says:

i've never tried those apples. i like sour apples like granny smiths. red/pink apples always remind me of tasting so sickeningly sweet!

15th Sep 2006, 15:42

kostika says:

The juice wasn't sickly sweet actually. It had a nice apple sweetness with jsut a touch of the crips tartness. It was very nice to drink and didn't make me pucker or get that sweetness gag.

Alan Taylor(pinkladyrep-at-earthlink-dot-net) says:

I'm the marketing director for Pink Lady(R) America which represents the growers of this apple. I'm glad to hear that you like it and the juice.

Like it or not, trademarks are becoming a necessary part of fruit production. I know for a fact that the owner of this apple in North America invested a ton of money in finding this apple and bringing the trees to market. Not being able to profit from a trademark will greatly reduce the new varieties of produce that will end up in the supermarket.

kostika says:

And you are full of shit. If you were for real you wouldn't have just given an Earthlink email address.

6th Oct 2006, 22:03

Alan Taylor says:

Let's find out who is really full of shit. Send a message to my Earthlink address and I'll answer

22nd Dec 2006, 21:38

kostika says:

Yea, cause an earthlink address is such great proof. So if I go out and get a email address of then it'll make me truthful and a pink lady rep also?

Being able to reply to an earthlink address proves is that you have an earthlink account. Not that you aren't full of shit.

22nd Dec 2006, 21:42

Alan Taylor says:

You want proof? Just send me a message at or go to our website at

22nd Dec 2006, 23:05

kostika says:

HAHAHA...Do you have any idea how much you've made me laugh tonight? Thank you

22nd Dec 2006, 23:28

Alan Taylor says:

I'm always happy to entertain but this time the joke was on you!

27th Dec 2006, 16:01

kostika says:

Naw not really. Cause I still think you're full of it up to your eyeballs. The Pink Lady Website contact page has the email address not some unprofessional earthlink address.

So please stop. You're only making yourself look really really bad here. Somehow you seem to think I actually give a rat's ass about you.

27th Dec 2006, 17:48

Alan Taylor says:

O.K., so you caught me. The 'unprofessional earthlink address' is for my home computer.

Check the website again and you'll find that I'm quoted (as marketing director) in the News Section in two stories.

I really really feel sorry for your rat!

kostika says:

At least you know how to spell the guy's name right.

But you really don't get it do you? I don't actually care.

27th Dec 2006, 20:16

Alan Taylor says:

I really really don't care that you don't care!
