From what I'm reading, it's some type of Swallowtail butterfly chrysalis (silver or gold spots are a characteristic of the Swallowtails). Keep an eye on it - when it turns clear, and you can make out some of the wing pattern, the butterfly will emerge sometime in the next 24 hours. Maybe you'll get to wow us all with some pics :-)

Maggie, don't be, I'm just lucky enough to have nearly eidetic memory for things which interest me, and my google-fu is strong. I remembered the thing about the chrysalis turning clear from 9th grade horticulture class where we studied plant pests :-)
