I see alot of people reading on the train and it cheers me. It makes me happy to see so many people enjoying books in this day and age.

Caine says:

That is nice. I love to read, if only I had an unlimited book budget.

OJ says:

I know what you mean. I quite often try to see what people are reading. Then they get annoyed. Although I did once have a nice conversation about Emily Dickinson with a woman on First Great Western.

Is that Joanne Harris? The book I mean...

oj i do the same and i think it annoys people. i don't remember the author name me that book though. i just remember it was one i didn't know.

Gael says:

Sleep Pale Sister is on my Wish List : )
I'll try and see what people are reading too. There's a speed dating event at the Cheltenham Literary Festival this year - you get 4 mins to talk about your favourite authors with each person. Sounds like a great idea to me ...

kostika says:

Now that sounds like a good way to meet people. Books are a good way to get to know someone.

OJ says:

Gael, that sort of thing terrifies me - ask me for my favourite anything and I just clam up.... So many things interest me at different times, for whatever reasons. Vague, vague blah...

Kostika, I'm now trying to see what she's using as a bookmark. I found myself on a train the other day reading a book that had a Lambda Literary Award for lesbian fiction sticker on the cover - and realised I was using the latest Less Bounce sports bra catalogue as a bookmark. :cringe:

Gael says:

OJ - subtle : ) Is it just me being hyper-sensitive or does everyone get asked if they want a bag when they buy Diva?

kostika says:

i have that problem also. differcou mood means different fave. and i can never choose an overall fave of something.

OJ says:

They used to Gael, but I've not noticed it lately. Could be that I buy it infrequently or that I have the hide of a rhino.... And FYI I need to buy a new sports bra, it's not what I would call eye candy! Honest.

Kostika, I find that the people who can name their favourite anything tend to be of the listmaking/collecting ilk. It's a whole mindset.

kostika says:

i hate to kill your theory, but i'm a list maker.

16th Aug 2006, 15:03

OJ says:

Damn it!

Are you a mnemonic list-maker (Must do ironing, buy birthday present etc.) or a Top 10 Greatest Sci Fi Films ever type of list-maker. I meant the latter.

16th Aug 2006, 15:19

kostika says:

little of both. mostly the first though. it's a memory device for me. no point in a list that serves no purpose.

16th Aug 2006, 15:28

OJ says:

I think my theory holds then :-)

I make To Do lists too, and in fact one is staring at me right about now...

16th Aug 2006, 15:29

kostika says:

I don't jsut make To Do lists. I make lists of things jsut to remember them. Especially instructions. ANything I have to remember.
