Well, this started out as a way that my wife could follow my lone progress in my little sports car from Birmingham UK to Orkney.

Been there, done that 2 day there, 13hour return trip.

So now follow me: an Englishman representing Americans and based in a French office near Paris. With an appartment in Versailles and trips back to the UK anything can happen and, frankly, I've no idea where this will lead!

Fete de la Musique

Once a year in France they hold a national Fete de la Musique. It's not a public holiday but the intention is that anyone can come out and play whatever they want and irrespective of ability. I really like this idea.

We went to watch Pierre (our next-door neighbour) play the guitar in a band in a village near Paris. It was his first time playing out and he wasn't too happy with the amount of preparation (or the 2 minute sound check) but the results were excellent. Bravo Pierre!

There was an odd mix of bands - as is to be expected at an event like this - with the comedy prize (if there was one) going to the first band of late teens doing death metal with two lead singers screaming in monotone into the mics. The 5 swaying groupies seemed to like it, one toddler seemed to find it quite good to dance to and several Grannies sat wondering when the music would start.
