Spike: In photoshop, I would mask the item, copy and paste it into the image as a new layer, and desaturate the background layer. And clean it up a little with the desaturate tool and the blur tool.

These shots, however, came straight out of my camera. :)

It's a Canon Ixus 50. Most of my macro shots come from it, actually. I luuuuuurve it to pieces.

spike, you can also take the orginal image, create a new layer on top and desaturate, then use the lasso tool to trace around the image you want in colour, then go to edit and "clear". this works, but i think Daz' method may be quicker. i might have to try that Daz... :D
