They look like a rock called larvikite (which is a very dense igneous rock), which normally comes from Sweden, south of Oslo :)

we go up to Staithes in Yorkshire a lot...and they have used a lot of the same stone to defend the coast....its black with lots of sparkly bits in it....lovely stone......but sadly looks really out of place.....
