Is it a radio and also a toaster?

25th Mar 2006, 12:07

paintist says:

The people who make famous toasters (Dualit) are also making this radio for the kitchen, but I think the photographer was playing a visual joke by putting toast on the radio.....
Its a shame because it would be neat idea!

Neil Baron(neil-at-eurotechdev-dot-com) says:

I designed it and can assure you it is a radio and only that. It's a very lovingly crafted one thouh and will stand the test of time. I hope you all enjoy it.

Hey its nice to meet you, and I know it doesnt toast...it looks great and very desirable.Have you designed anything else in that range ?

neil says:

yes. I designed the Lite toaster and the mini oven. I have to say the radio is my favourite though.

my son has just got his degree in product design, and as a family we appreciate good design :-)

4th Apr 2006, 09:32

its a great design actuall. you can sorta see that its not really a toaster but that would make it a great fun, the design of this radio is stunning actually.

neil says:

thankyou very much. It was difficult to try and create something fresh yet familiar. I just worried and worried over this project. In the end I decided to redesign it at the 11th hour and this was the result.

4th Apr 2006, 10:21

well i think you did a great job.i like the design of the front pannel, im her son by the way.

4th Apr 2006, 10:33

neil says:

thanks. you can take a look at the back too if you go to dualit.com. I'm quite thrilled about all actually as I have been living in Vietnam for the past 6 months and still haven't actually seen it in the flesh even though it just launched in England...

4th Apr 2006, 11:00

paintist says:

I haven't seen one in the flesh yet....but I hope it has a good weight, it would be so disapointing if it felt light. Do you take that into account when designing it?

4th Apr 2006, 11:13

ooo i like the darker metal and the back is as nice as the front.

4th Apr 2006, 11:36

paintist says:

can you highlight it on here, please backwards....

4th Apr 2006, 11:39

do you mean like this?

the dark one is near the bottom

4th Apr 2006, 11:58

paintist says:

that is a very nice review....look forward to seeing in shops in May

Thanks backwards :-)

4th Apr 2006, 12:00

neil says:

It weighs 2.5kgs so it's nice and heavy. The front and back are aluminium/zinc castings which are then polished by hand individually. This made designing the castings very difficult as we couldn't add too much detail hence the steel mesh stamped grill.

4th Apr 2006, 12:05

i like the stamped grill

Penfold says:

Beautiful peice of design. It really looks at home with the other products associated with the brand. I'll look out for it as it looks like it will be a tactile pleasure too.
