As well as being pretty cool, Vancouver Chinatown is also the poorest area of North America. Surprising considering the relatively low crime rate. This is a photo of one of the long back alleys that connect the streets up.

After numerous problems with my display driver on my laptop, I tried to install Catalyst yesterday, despite having to do it manually because I got an error message when trying to do an automatic install. So I followed the ATI instruction sheet thing, which resulted in the same error message, and left me with a generic display driver. Anywho, that began a cascade of events which resulted in my hard drive being wiped yesterday :o( As such this'll probably be my last post in a bit as I need to get things sorted again (annoying, especially as most of my programs are in England). It also means that some of my favourite photos from the weekend, from a great Zen garden, have been erased. Fortunately I've got backups of everything else though.

Sh*t. Sorry to hear that - there are some free tools you can use to recover files from a memorystick if you've wiped the pictures from your phone.

i bet you used strong language, such as botheration, or even damn and blast

Thanks :o)

I believe botheration and balderdash were part of my colourful expletives that evening.

Crickson> The pictures are wiped from the phone; are there tools to recover them from the memory card? Any idea where I download them from? I was more pissed off with losing my photos than I was about going through the rigmarole of re-installing everything I've got! There was a huge downpour, and I had some great rainy-zen garden photos.

To add insult to injury, I still can't bloody install catalyst.

Yes you can recover the files so long as you havent saved anything over them. I was looking for recovery tools a while ago after I stupidly deleted something from my external HD. Several seemed to be free, although you might have to buy the software if you want to access the recovered files. It's worth checking out, and you certainly wouldn't have to buy something if it doesn't recover the pictures. Several seemed memorystick-specific.

I'm really sorry Rare. Went through something similar before Christmas. Like you I lost my hard drive, unlike you I had a backup laptop. What I hadn't expected was that my backed up email files were bigger than the (very) old laptop hard drive.. I empathise with you and hope that you retrieve your photos - and that we get to see them!

Thanks everyone. And thanks Crickson; I managed to find a free file recover software. I'm so happy with it I'm going to mercilessly advertise it on my moblog sidebar!
