Helen says:

Flamingoes make me feel sad.

Was it a flamingo that broke your glasses? Is that why you are sad?

They look like muppet type creatures

It was a printer that broke my glasses, same difference I suppose.

There was a BBC documentary once about flamingoes... flamingoes that live in a clayey swamp. The young famingoes had to learn to fly before their legs got weighed down with too much of the clayey swamp... not all of them made it and some ended up earth-bound with great chunks of rock set around their ankles. It was horrible. All the other flamingoes would fly off to migrate and leave these poor baby flamingoes behind, shackled to the earth.

There were a lot of gratuitous shots of solitary baby flamingoes, slowly wading though the mud, with big buoys of clay on their sticky legs... wandering out towards the sunset. I cried. And I don't cry. Not at soppy things. Not at silly films. Even ones based on real life. Like The Titanic.

The Titanic actually made me laugh quite a lot. Mostly with frustration. But some bits were genuinely funny. Like when DiCaprio drowned.

Helen says:

Yeah, poor clay, getting stuck like that to rotting baby flamingoes. That must stink.
