very nice... has your phone turned up yet?

Thanks for the highlight!!! :o)

The phone turned up this morning! Thanks so much for all your help Mat. Actually I wanted to ask about becoming a subscriber. I'm not allowed a credit card over here (no North American credit rating), so was wondering if I could send a cheque or something?

mat says:

cool! I was beginning to worry about that.

If you have a credit/debit card that works in the UK, you should be able to use that with paypal, from Canada, otherwise you can post me a cheque.. Non-paypal subscriptions are a bit of a pain, but I can work around them if they're fairly long term (ie, 6 months or greater at a time)

30th Nov 2005, 18:50

yeah, the problem is paypal doesn't recognise interac, the Canadian debit system. I have a UK debit card, but that account is normally empty, and HSBC charges $50 to transfer between accounts in different countries (they can't even email my UK bank manager; "the worlds local bank" my arse). I was planning on sending a cheque for 6 months or 1 year or something if that's ok.

Geodyne says:

While for you a cheque does appear to be the best thing....$50?! I did an electronic transfer from my UK HSBC acc to an Australian (non-HSBC) account last week for £9! You're being had, my friend!

(Admittedly, the amount being transferred was large enough to justify the cost - and much larger than 6 month's subscription).

(argh) Edited to add: The reason I was going to comment was because the photo was so beautiful. I got distracted.)

It's a lovely photo - could be a painting. Sorry about the credit card problems, have had some of them myself in various countries

Geodyne> HSBC Canada is totally rubbish. I get charged $5 per month for the pleasure of having my account with them, and with that I get "5 free transactions a month", meaning if I put money in/take it out after those 5 transactions I get charged $2 each time. Then the cheques all cost money, as does using a non-HSBC ATM. No wonder there are people who stuff all their cash under their matresses.

Dhamaka> Thanks :o) yeah, credit cards can be difficult to get hold of. I can kinda understand it as nothings stopping me from maxing out my card then moving back to the UK. I merrily assumed with a international bank they'd be able to do things like check credit history etc.
