My Pet Hate: is TUESDAY, everything that has ever gone wrong in my life has happened on a TUESDAY! I hate it, it's now my day off so that i don't have to face the world! Don't make me have to suffer TUESDAY by asking me about it!!! I also dislike girls who drink pints, smoke and generally act like men!!

walla_walla says:

yeah that would be great!

how can i get some?

25th Nov 2005, 04:48

bmal says:

ill be up for that. it would be good to stick them up all around

25th Nov 2005, 09:09

Spike says:

wooo. hoooo. hell yeah

25th Nov 2005, 09:22

goode says:

cool, i'm just looking for a good source of sticker printing.... i have some already but i'm not sure of the quality yet!?

25th Nov 2005, 11:35

Joe says:

whats the domain for? this is a moblog promotion isn't it?

25th Nov 2005, 11:39

goode says:

yup it all redirects here, just wanted an easier to remember domain for my stickers!!

25th Nov 2005, 11:42

Joe says:

well thats not strictly true is it? it shows a picture of my wife and a link to your moblog first.

25th Nov 2005, 11:43

goode says:

it's the random script on the cardspy tag and it's just so i can keep a tally of the traffic through the domain...

25th Nov 2005, 11:46

Joe says:

It just seems a bit cheeky to me, this isn't your promotion, and gaining traffic from it by buying a domain and then redirecting people forcing them to see a page first with whatever you want on it, just smacks of bad practice.

25th Nov 2005, 11:50

kostika says:

Unfortunately I'm gonna have to agree with Joe on this. Spied is supposed to be a Moblog promo.

25th Nov 2005, 11:52

goode says:

would a straight redirect please you?! it's exactly the same promo! Just using different media. and there is no content on the .info site!?

25th Nov 2005, 11:52

kostika says:

They won't remember if you put a differant URL on the stickers.

25th Nov 2005, 11:55

Joe says:

leaving it as it was would have pleased me...I don't think it needed a domain name at all, the whole point of the promotion was to bring new users to the moblog domain, not confuse them by sending them to another website and have them arrive somewhere else.

25th Nov 2005, 11:56

goode says:

just is a little long winded i think especialy if you are putting this on to a t-shirt...

25th Nov 2005, 12:00

Joe says:

you seem to be missing the point, the idea of cardspy is to get people to visit and hopefully eventually subscribe to moblog, sending them to a different URL altogether from scratch is counter intuitive to less experienced users...and doesn't promote moblog at all, it promotes

25th Nov 2005, 12:02

kostika says:

erm...tshirts? Who said anything about tshirts?

25th Nov 2005, 12:03

goode says:

it's the name of the promotion though! no one knows what moblog is until they get here, this way in my opinion the promotion is self contained...

if coca-cola were doing a promotion called colaspy, you wouldn't go to would you?

25th Nov 2005, 12:08

kostika says:

Moblog isn't a huge company with a recognised name. If coke was new they'd use their own name in the domain. The idea is to promote, not jsut cardspy. We need them to remember moblog domain, not

25th Nov 2005, 12:12

goode says:

i'm having a t-shirt made for the promotion... i really like the promo, and want to see it as a success.. so far all i've seen is pictures sent in by existing members so i'm trying something new to help out! and for this i'm using the domain!

25th Nov 2005, 12:25

bmal says:

the new .info site is a liitle better it actually as moblog on it. any help will work i think.

but i think you should still have the automatic link thing where it coults down as if people dont click on it, it will just stay there with the coulnt down it does it for them

25th Nov 2005, 12:28

goode says:

thanks, oops didn't notice it had gone!

25th Nov 2005, 12:29

Joe says:

you're still missing the point, from my point of view it looks like you're hijacking the promotion, not helping it....this is just my opinion, but the cardspy domain is not only surplus to requirements, but it's counter productive. To try and promote a website, by placing a different website address on the promotional material, is just not logical.

25th Nov 2005, 12:32

bmal says:

well you see i agree with both of you as the whole web adress is a bit long for a sticker, the cards its good, but the sticker is something that people will see and not be able to take home with them, you need a catchy easily rememberable tag line on a sticker so people will go home and remember it.

25th Nov 2005, 12:36

spongevid says:

but if they need to remember anything, they can take a photo of it with their camera phone!!!!
isn't that the point? taking a photo of the sticker/card?

25th Nov 2005, 12:39

bmal says:

have you ever taken a picture of something like that and then been able to read it? i know i havent but that might be my phone

25th Nov 2005, 12:40

goode says:

the redirect is back up, after 6 seconds...

25th Nov 2005, 12:42

bmal says:

very good

25th Nov 2005, 12:47

goode says:

there is no masking or hijacking going on it would be like me putting a link on my site saying visit cardspy/moblog/santa, but instead diverting the whole site to cardspy/moblog/santa... Better i think!? plus it's easier to remember!

Quoting Joe:"you're still missing the point, from my point of view it looks like you're hijacking the promotion, not helping it....this is just my opinion, but the cardspy domain is not only surplus to requirements, but it's counter productive. To try and promote a website, by "

Precisely. I agree. Goode, no matter how much you protest about this it does look very much like a hijack which dilutes the message - and coincidentally racks up page impressions for your website, for whatever purpose.

Who organised this promotion? Mat? Alfie? Perhaps you should take a look at the forum for threads about this and contact one of them if you'd like to help.

26th Nov 2005, 15:14

goode says:

OJ, who are you?

You should perhaps look at the forum and you'll fnid that the user "lard" was the brain behind it, i sourced the printer for the cards and that mat sent them all out aong with setting up the shared blog...

26th Nov 2005, 15:18

OJ says:

I'm a fellow user Goode, it's not difficult to find out who I am, you just click on my name like anyone else's....

Well if you were involved in setting this up in the first place (I clearly wasn't), I really don't understand why you would do a breakaway set of cards. Enthusiasm is great, but using a different URL seems a bit ill-thought-out at best.

As was said way back up, this really is bad practice on a not for profit site.... it's not in the spirit of things IMHO.

26th Nov 2005, 15:47

goode says:

i'm not quite sure what the problem is?! if there is one at all!? as it is the moblog site is good and easy to stumble upon through google! excellent, but why not make it easy to stumble upon in everyday life? stickers here and cards there etc etc... using an easier to remember url for the promotion is not "ill-thought-out" i'm not set to make anything out of this!

It would be nice to introduce yourself before ranting though?! Common courtesy?

26th Nov 2005, 15:51

OJ says:

Goode, I don't know what you thought was ranting about my original comment stating my opinion. It's hardly as if I was commenting anonymously.

Anyway, I think the stickers and cards are a great idea. The alternate URL you've set up and the redirect via your own site aren't and in my opinion could give a confusing/amateurish impression to the random punter who finds the stickers...

There's my opinion politely stated, as ever.

26th Nov 2005, 16:10

goode says:

oh well!

26th Nov 2005, 16:13

mat says:

I agree about the presentation - some minor grammar issues grate on my brain a bit, slightly dubious web content (automatic forwarding?! tables?! html 4/transitional? massive yuck, in my professional opinion. what happens if you hit with your mobile phone? does it render?) and it screws up my tracking if lots of visitors are coming in from - I can't run my tracker on your content, nor can I analyse your log files. Practical upshot: I can't calculate the ROI for this promotion with any reliability (not that it was ever going to be great, but it would be nice to know how ungreat is was). I'd rather have my domain on the cards too, although the 'easy to remember' bit is a good point (except the flyer has the url on, and is pocket sized so you can take it with you).

That's all mildly irrelevant though, it's not a big deal. I get especially pernickety about grammer, much more so than I really should, some say. However - a slightly bigger deal - I would have appreciated being asked before you took my very carefully built brand and associated your own work/ideas with it though, I believe that falls under 'common courtesy' (or, as we like to call it, 'copyright law')

But. All that said - I'm not going to stop anyone promoting the site in their own way, if that's what they want to spend their money on. Enthusiasm is always a good thing for promotions - I think the stickers are a good idea - they're not quite how I'd have made them, much like the site, but I still think it's a good idea. I'd have done it slightly differently, that's all.

Please do ask next time though - I'll almost certainly say yes, but I'd like to know in advance. Hell, if I know about it, I'll probably help you promote the idea - doing it this way round I just feel vaguely annoyed that you've cut me out of my own loop. You probably wouldn't appreciate me doing a run of 'Goode Multimedia' mousemats without your permission/knowledge, would you? Please extend me the same courtesy, thanks.

26th Nov 2005, 16:43

goode says:

at least you can see i wasn't deliberatlely stepping on anyones toes! Outrageously long post! good effort! Mouse mats would be great, print away!

Joking aside, guess i should have asked but since i wasn't doing anything harmful to the site i thought i'd just go for it! besides promotion is promotion unless it's bad promotion!

26th Nov 2005, 16:51

Dhamaka says:

I know I'm going to regrest saying this this, but real promotion only normally works when the message is consistent. This isn't. Corporates spend *huge* amounts of money on publicity about tiny changes to their name, brand or (dare I say it) URL and are very, very careful about diluting or changing their message in any way at all. Even believing that you're an impulsive kinda guy (that's certainly the impression you have given so far) I think Mat has taken it far better than I would have..
