Driven to abstraction

Perhaps a bit of an explanation is needed. The last few sequences of photos (not including the accidental neon but including the comic anti-pedestrian sign) were taken around the Princess Dock area in Liverpool on a deserted Sunday afternoon.

The whole area is an example of shiny, shiny urban redevelopment and yet.... I was trying to capture the overwhelming feeling of emptiness and sterility there - partly by using negative/positive shots which are interchangeable and sometimes look like graphic simulations. The spotlit single tree and discarded banana skin in the bin were about the only organic things there.

I don't know whether any of this comes across or whether other people have this reaction to this sort of environment or to these photos. Do you? I would welcome your comments about the subject as much as about the photos.
