My grandparents make their own sauerkraut every year - and nothing
beats homemade sauerkraut, I assure you. :)

Btw, this is my mum stomping the cabbage. :)

Insert kraut joke here. :>

Of course, they're only used for that and never touch anything else. And they're properly cleaned and sanitized before and after. :)

B'elf: I'd send you some, but it would probably go bad on the way. One day, I will buy one of those vacuum food preservation thingies. :)

Oh, it has to be stomped GOOD. ;)

My mum did 80 kilos today. She says it was a nice workout. ;)

The barrel is then covered with a cotton sheet and a sheet of wood, which is pressed down by a large rock. Two and a half weeks later -- voilà. :)

Hello Sonja,

I love sauerkraut and am very interested in knowing more about your family's sauerkraut-making. A good friend of mine recently started his own very small business making and selling home-made kraut in Madison, Wisconsin. He is coming to Germany in November and asked if I could find some people who make their own kraut here that he might visit or contact. Would you be willing to email me about this?

Hi Naomi,

sorry to disappoint you, but my grandparents haven't made sauerkraut in quite a while.
