Address: 16 West Springtown Road, Long Valley

Phone: (908) 876-4356; (908) 581-7200; (908) 876-9816

Web site: www.theparishouse.com

Hours of operation: We are open by appointment only, and our online lifestyle magazine, www.theparishouse.com, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week

Founded: I have been planning parties for almost 20 years and have had my own business for around 15 years.

Type of business: A lifestyle business that provides party planning, design services and an online lifestyle magazine. I travel all over the world and bring back unique, one-of-a-kind items that I incorporate in my designs, party planning and online lifestyle magazine.

The vast majority of my design work comes from the inspiration I get on my travels. I teach a workshop called "The World Is My Playground, Entertaining and Design Ideas from around the World" out of my 200-year-old historic farmhouse. In my classes I give a filmstrip on various places in the world, mentioning highlights such as museums, where to shop, where to eat and what to see. My students receive handouts with menus and recipes inspired from that region (such as Paris, a Latin American soiree, Vermont, Cape May, England, etc.). The students can enjoy our gardens, sample appetizers and cocktails from the particular region while discussing great shortcuts and budget ideas for throwing a themed party.

We also host other entrepreneurial men and women in the area who come and talk about their businesses. We have a fashion stylist from France giving a talk in May in our tulip garden. She will talk about how to blend the chic style of Paris with our classic American girl style and finding a style that works for you. We have a Web designer coming in June to introduce us to the world of webmasters. My students leave with wonderful ideas, menus and handouts and even goodie bags on occasion.

I also am the editor and chief executive of an online lifestyle magazine, "The Paris House," which is updated each month and is filled with recipes, fashion and beauty information, shopping on a budget, travel, family fun, pets, crafts, Bunny's garden section, design, party planning tips, videos and much more. I write an article for The Well Fed Network on the Cooks Channel, where I share recipes and gadgets/products that I often find on my travels. I also write a blog that I update several times a week, which you can find on my online magazine www.theparishouse.com. You can browse our online boutique that has items that have been carefully selected from around the world and are offered on a limited basis. One of our featured items is a beautiful birthstone ring, "The Earth Mother" ring for moms. We offer a high-end diamond and gem stone version as well as a much more affordable faux version (a portion of all sales go to various charities that The Paris House sponsors).

In addition, I am thrilled to have a children's book I wrote accepted by a publisher. This has been one of my dreams and I am so excited to see it become a reality.

Why did you start the business? I love party planning and, after I had my first child 15 years ago, I decided to start my own company and continue to create beautiful events. The company has just evolved into a lifestyle business. Now, three sons later, it fits beautifully into our lives.

If you could do it again, what would you do differently? I would have started using a digital camera and BlackBerry sooner than I did. They save so much time and make blogging, Facebook and Twitter updates much easier.

What's the best business advice your parents gave? You are very talented, keep pursuing your dreams and always have a positive attitude.

What personality trait helps you the most? I don't require very much sleep and have a tremendous amount of energy. My eyes are always open, seeing things that inspire my creative endeavors. I keep my BlackBerry next to my bed so I can record ideas at anytime during the night as I often dream up titles of books and interesting ideas in my sleep. I wake up excited to start my day and that is a wonderful way to live.

What's the hardest part of the job? That there are only 24 hours in the day.

The easiest? It is so much fun

What's your least expensive product or service? My free advice.

The most expensive? High-end antiques that I ship back from Europe for clients and our high-end Earth Mother birthstone ring.

Describe your most unusual customer, job or work experience. I once planned a fashion show and the vast majority of my "models" were well over the age of 80. It was fabulous. Probably one of my favorite and most memorable events I ever planned.

When you leave the business, what will you do? I will never leave my business; I have never felt as energized, creative and fulfilled as I do now. It just keeps getting better.

In one sentence, tell us why customers should shop or visit the Paris House. We believe that you only have one life to live and it is important to live it beautifully. We create what some believe only to be a fantasy; The Paris House makes it a beautiful reality.

THE ITALIAN GODDESS MAKES LASAGNE

THE ITALIAN GODDESS MAKES LASAGNE

Giada De Laurentis is quite possibly the most adorable woman on the planet. She is a wife, mother, business mogul, and domestic goddess all rolled into one adorable package.
I enjoy her cookbooks and go to them several times a week for delicious and easy recipes that my 3 kids will eat and that my husband Josh and I will also enjoy. They are child friendly and yet still sophisticated enough to make us big people happy!!
I made her lasagne last night , it is easy and delicious. I make mine identical to hers except I add parsley and garlic powder to my ricotta cheese mixture ( I have always done this) sometimes I skip the bechamel part and use just a marinara sauce, it just depends on time and preference the day I am cooking it. I also often substitute with ground turkey meat in place of the chopped meat.
Giada's recipe can be found in her wonderful cookbook "EVERYDAY ITALIAN"

THE IMPORTANCE OF PET GROOMING

The Importance of Dog Grooming by Patty, owner of The Pooch Spa
Dog grooming is very vital because the physical appearance of your dog influences the way he feels and the way we look at him as well. Remember,
A clean dog is a happy and healthy dog!
Dog grooming is also essential not only on your pet’s physical health but also his physiological and psychological well being. What your dog feels and how he acts depend on his physical state. If you’re dog is not properly groomed, he must be likely to show some bad behaviors like excessive barking.
By reading this article, you will see the importance of proper dog grooming.
• Keeps your dog healthy. Taking care of your pet by giving him a good bath will eliminates germs and dirt that he got from playing outside. Clean dog equals healthy dog.
• Your pet feels comfortable. Bathing with a rich lather using a great dog shampoo will remove dog and fleas from your pet’s skin. No more dry and itchy skin if your dog is free from harmful insects. And washing your dog can be made easy by using pet bath.
• Trimming your dog’s nails will prevent the germs from accumulating inside of them. Also, trimmed nails will prevent scratch when your dog jumps over you and keeps your home furniture safe.
• Brushing you dog’s hair regularly will keep it shiny and from building up. If you currently have long-haired breed dog, you must need to cut it or occasional clipping is needed to keep him look nice and neat. Keeping the hair short around his eyes will give him a better view.
• Boost his energy. Clean dog means a happy dog. Just like human, your pet needs to be cleaned to awaken his senses after having a good wash. Proper grooming is just like rejuvenating his confidence to have the energy to face the activities that awaits him.
• A well-groomed pet is much easier to love. Of course, a responsible pet owner doesn’t want his dog to be dirty. A clean and healthy dog is very nice to look at. Others will also appreciate all the proper care that you do to your pet.

MAKEOVER A ROOM WITHOUT SPENDING A PENNY!!!

MAKEOVER A ROOM WITHOUT SPENDING A PENNY!!!, originally uploaded by rosenthal_michele.
MAKE YOUR OFFICE DESK A REFLECTION OF YOUR PERSONAL STYLE. I LIKE A TO ALWAYS HAVE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS, A DESK FILLED WITH SUPPLIES, SUCH AS STAPLES, ENVELOPES, TAPE, POSTAGE STAMPS, PENS, PENCILS, PRETTY JOURNALS, NOTE PADS, BEAUTIFUL AND CHIC FILE FOLDERS. THIS MAKES MY WORK AND FAMILY BUSINESS MUCH EASIER AND MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE.

I ALWAYS KEEP A BOTTLE OF GUERLAIN ROOM FRAGRANCE ON MY DESK, I LOVE THE VENETIAN SCENT. I HAVE AN ANTIQUE LAMP NEXT TO A VERY MODERN VASE FILLED WITH TULIPS.

I KEEP MANY OF MY FOLDERS IN FILES STORED IN MY BUILT IN WINDOW SEAT, AND I KEEP ALL OF MY PHOTO ALBUMS IN THE CLOSET, SO I AM ABLE TO REFER TO TRIPS AND VARIOUS INFORMATION QUICKLY FOR THE PARIS HOUSE BLOGS, BUSINESS, AND ONLINE MAGAZINE.

I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL TABLE AND ANIQUE CHAIR WHERE WE CAND HAVE TEA AND EVEN PLAY A GAME OF CARDS IN THE EVENING. THE OFFICE IS NOT LARGE BUT THAT WE HAVE REARRANGED THE LAYOUT OF THE FURNITURE IT SEEMS TWICE THE SIZE AND LOOKS MORE SPACIOUS AND MUCH LESS CLUTTERED.

IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM IS AN ANTIQUE AUBUSSON RUG FROM FRANCE THAT I BOUGHT WAY BEFORE I HAD DECIDED ON THE DECOR OF THE ROOM. I LOVED THE RUG AND DESIGNED THE ENTIRE ROOM AROUND IT.

MAKE YOUR WORK AND FAMILY OFFICE BEAUTIFUL, FUNCTIONA AND A PLACE YOU LOOK FORWARD TO GOING TO IN THE MORNNG.

EASTER COCKTAILS AND BRUNCH IN BUNNY'S GARDEN

The Boys and I love Easter and we are planning on getting a lot of fun things done this weekend so we are ready next Sunday for our Easter Egg Hunt. My husband Josh is going to uncover the pool and my older sons Sam and Teddy want to help him and just hang out ride bikes and have some friends over. Our little guy, Oliver (he is four) wants to play with our 3 Bunnies and spend time in his playground in our backyard.

We have a beautiful tent that is really a gazebo that we put each Spring, it is a few steps from our Pergola and the area is surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of flowers for a good 6 months a year. We spend April through October entertaining and just basically "living" outdoors. We set up a lot of different rooms and gardens throughout our property which consists of 5 acres.

We have everything from a childrens pumpkin patch garden to a formal rose garden. Have I mentioned that I am obsessed with gardening and the outdoors. Maybe it is because I am a Virgo the Earth sign, who knows?? My grandmother, Margaret was English and loved to garden and my grandmother, Carmella was Italian and the best baker in the world. I definately feel I got a lot of my creativity from these two women. They were both stylish and interesting and loved being with their family more than anything in the world.

The holidays always bring back these wonderful memories and this time of the year I can still remember the smell of the hyacinths and fresh baked Easter bread and remember being greated at the door with a delicious glass of sangria. We now make our own wonderful memories for our boys. So we'll get the pool open tomorrow and the tent up and the bunnies ready for the great Easter Egg Hunt we have planned next Sunday.

Here is our Easter menu for any of you who want some ideas and if anyone has a great cocktail idea to share please do!! I'm thinking bloody mary's but I also want something sparkly!!!

please view our Easter slide show on our lifestyle magazine http://www.theparishouse.com/ on our party planning page
