Local ER is *pants*, m'kay

Well, I'm back, and that was a complete waste of an afternoon. Apparently, there's nothing wrong, if an ultrasound and the fact that there is no pain can be considered a decent differential diagnosis. Which it can't. Especially when I never actually saw a doctor, I got shuffled off to a marginally competent nurse practitioner. Why no, they didn't in fact do bloodwork. The good thing is, the swelling has gone down considerably, probably because the foot was elevated (which it still is, I'm now up in the recliner). So unless it gets worse, here I am. Monday I'll go see my doctor, who is thorough and actually gives a fuck. We'll see where things go from there.

I put this in the previous posts comments but then I figured it'd be easier to see if I made another post.

Why do these things always happen on the weekend??

Was in the shower just now, and bent to wash between the tootsies, and
realized that my left ankle and foot are swollen. VERY swollen.
Doesn't hurt at all, to walk on or to flex, and the skin seems normal.
It's just really swollen. Very damned weird. I'll be keeping a very
close eye on it and if it does anything else weird(er) I guess I'll have to
go to the emergency room. Hopefully it'll ride until Monday. Hopefully
my doc is open on Monday with the holiday and all. Really don't want to
have to deal with some strange doctor poking at me.

FO Happy dance!

My first knitted FO! It' oversized dishcloth, I guess :-). It's supposed to be a potholder but cotton yarn potholder strikes me as a burned hand looking for a place to happen, so, dishcloth. Not that I plan to use it - I plan to label it "First Knitted FO" and hang on to it so I can look at it in a year and see how much difference there is.

1. Slip stitch side
2. Purl side
3. Pattern detail
4. This is what happens when you drop a loop and it starts to unravel on you and you don't want to frog stitch 4 rows so you grab a crochet hook and make a desperation repair!
5. Both ends - the really tight garter stitch (left) is the end I started with, the much looser more relaxed end (right) is how I finished. Progress!

It's not Mike's Hard Lime...

But it'll do for now. Oh, did I mention that I am finally off all the
antibiotics, antifungals, steroids, etc from the sinus surgery? Yeah.

Best Christmas Present Ever.

Those of you who have known me for a while from Usenet may remember when
my Memier died, how I was pretty much devastated. Over time, I've become
able to cope with it, remembering the good times more than the badness
of not having her around. I still miss her, and I always will, I know.
This past Christmas, I got this ring as a gift from Mom. Mom had been
waiting until she felt I could handle it to give me Memier's wedding
band. It's a beautiful, if well worn, silver filigree band with gold
bands around the outside. Memier never took it off (71 years!) except
when she was forced to while pregnant with my youngest uncle. But she
absolutely refused to be buried with any jewelry, she wanted my mother
to have all of it as my mother is the one of the 3 girls who really
loves jewelry. So Mom had been hanging on to this to give to me, and I
had NO idea about it. We all felt I was meant to get it when, much to
our shock, given that Memier was a very tiny woman and I'm....well, fits perfectly in place of my old wedding band, which I haven't
worn in a long time because it didn't fit. I'd never really noticed that
she had big hands for her size, but she must have. She was a good 6
inches shorter than me. I had promised pics of this quite some time ago
on my livejournal, and then I forgot because I never had access to the
good camera. Yesterday as I was knitting and watching my hands I
remembered about it, and took these.

First real project in progress

Making a dishcloth from the Peaches & Creme yarn website. They actually call this one "Knitted Potholder" but I can't see using a cotton yarn item as a potholder - if it's even a bit damp you might as well not even bother using it. So, a dishcloth. Very simple pattern of knit, purl, and slip stitches. I had been making a snuggly but the needles weren't quite long enough so I'll wait on that until I get circulars - I want a set of KnitPicks Options in a bad way.

1. Dishcloth, about 1/3 of the way there.
2. Slip stitch side
3. Purl side
4. Keeping track of how many rows are done.

YH, go check the knitting thread on your LJ, there's a note there for ya :-)

I need yarn. Made this little swatch with an old skein of Red Heart
acrylic - and now I remember why I stopped using it for crocheting,
because it's utter shite. Four knit rows, one purl row, one knit row
(so THAT'S how they do that!), one purl row, one knit row, bind off -
and I started with 16 stitches and ended with 15, still not sure where
that happened.

Hope I can salvage these

I need to consult with my battery expert tomorrow (AKA DH) for whether
the battery compartment in the exposure meter is too damaged to be worth
hunting up a replacement battery if I can. Meanwhile, I am handling the
battery as little as possible - it's a mercury battery and it's leaked.
Also need to see if I can fix the telephoto lens - it's got the focusing
ring off (I do have the ring). If I can get it working, cleaned, etc I
may inherit the thing 3 decades early :-) There is also a flash
attachment back with the folks - Mom couldn't put her hands on it right
off and she's not well so I wasn't about to let her go closet diving in
the heat. Once she's better, she said she'll try to hunt it up and get
it to me so I can see about fixing that too - I imagine it's another
dead battery, hopefully not too badly damaged.
