Dogs. Fiber Arts. Occasional Cats, Trolleys & Trains & Flowers. And other moments from my life that I find interesting.

**Canon Powershot A430 - Oh, how I love thee, let me count the ways....Primary camera - if it a good photo, this took it.

How to keep a dachshund....

(viewed 1046 times)
out from under foot and happy while on a mad 2-day cleaning and packing
spree? Give him a new lovey. He doesn't get soft toys very often as he
has a tendency to murder them very fast and spread lovey guts all over
the house, but the first thing we pulled out of the bedroom closet was a
box of my old dolls, stuffed animals, etc. We opened it to see what it
was and Bandit saw it and zeroed in immediately. We took out the
valuable things and let him pick out what he wanted from the rest. We
were highly amused by his choice of this one. :-) He pulled the
stuffing (some is stuck to his mouth there) from one paw but otherwise
has been happily just carting it about and using it for a pillow since.
Hopefully it will last him a while.

Still alive....

Got a comment from 540air on my previous post and thought I should let
everyone know I'm still alive. The last 3 weeks have been impossibly
stressful, but we're getting through it, and it may end up with us
making a major lifestyle change - we may be purchasing Gup's house from
the estate and moving over there. It's only about 10 minutes difference
by car, but it's a HUGE change from where we are now - 1100 SF as
opposed to the less than 700 we are in now, a quarter of an acre (the
pups are never going to run out of sniffing area!), and a much, much
nicer, safer neighborhood. So right now we are looking hard at our
finances and I am looking hard for more work, and so that's where we are
at. I will try to post when I can - including photos of the house when
I get them. This photo is one I took last summer at Gup's when all the
flowers were in bloom....holy shit, I'll actually have room to grow my
own flowers! :-)

This has been the week from hell....

...and it ain't over yet. Let's recap, shall we?
Saturday: Surprise retirement party for DH's dad. Went off without a hitch, everyone had a ball, so this is a good thing. However, about halfway through the night we get word that DH's grandfather (Gup) had been taken to the ER by ambulance because an aunt found him very disoriented and obviously quite ill. The word was a UTI & kidney infection, he was dehydrated. Ok, been here, done this, it's fixable.
Sunday: the word on Gup worsens - seems he also has pneumonia.
Monday: the pneumonia goes systemic, and the entire northeastern seaboard goes into a panic, as if we've never had snow. Hello, people, we didn't even get 1.5 feet. It was a goddamned windy flurry in any other winter.
Tuesday: I get to work to discover that the new (3 month old) computer has had a nervous breakdown of some sort. Track it down to the new LCD monitor. Spend the whole damned day talking to various customer service people once I wade through the voice response hell to get to live people. Whoever came up with the idea of these automated voice response systems should be put on permanent poop scooping duty at an elephant farm. Gup is about the same, maybe a little worse, depends on which medical type person you talk to.
Wednesday: Gup is much worse. The infection is systemic, he's nonresponsive, and the DNR is in effect. And, snow, what more do you need to know? Have I mention how much I fucking HATE snow? The one mid-week bright spot here is that an old family friend is practically giving us a vehicle to replace the truck which is on it's last legs.
Today: Gup died. The service is Monday, and a cousin who is a minister is driving up here from Pennsylvania to give the service, so this forecast better bloody well be right, she better not get stuck in snow on the way. I'm ready to fire the universe now - if she can't make it and we have to scramble any more eggs this week, I'm going to brain the universe with the fry pan.

Limes in the kitchen, and in the office :-) Sorry no nudes here - there
isn't enough Photoshop on the planet to get me to pose nude!

More ice is nice shots

(viewed 956 times)
I took these at night with our walk spotlight shining through the ice on
the tree branches - I was trying to get good still shots, as the trees
looked really cool with the light shining through the ice.
Unfortunately, there was a breeze, plus I was shivering too hard. I
still thought these came out kind of cool.

Ice is nice

When it falls in such a way as to coat everything and make it look
pretty, but since the ground is still not frozen the footing and driving
are still safe, that is. These are from the minor ice storm we had on
15 January.
