**Motorola ic902 - Probably the best of the (poor) choices with Nextel for a camera phone.
**Canon Powershot A430 - Oh, how I love thee, let me count the ways....Primary camera - if it a good photo, this took it.

I can haz new jammiez!

(viewed 730 times)
All winter clothes got packed way back in June and are presently buried in storage off site. Waking up with an arm worked out of the coccoon of blankets and cold like to want to fall off, unacceptable. Thus, new jammiez :). With puppies on them, no less!

Car safety warning

(viewed 774 times)
Rather scary afternoon event, see previous post. Especially for
those who are like me - I can drive a car, gas it up, and in theory
change a tire. And call AAA. Other than that I haven't a clue how
they work.

See the complete lack of lights? Not amused!

The rest of the story:

So, dead battery this morning. Call AAA, get a jump, go to work, not an issue. At the end of the day, my boss made me start it before he left and be sure I was OK to get home. We both noticed an odd smell around the car but didn't think too much about it.

I came straight home and got here just a few minutes before Don. Like, 2 minutes. 3 tops. So the car was still hot. I had no idea how hot...until he popped the hood and the smoke came wafting out. Apparently, Someone likes me because it's a minor miracle that the car didn't catch fire on me halfway home.

The battery holder thingum had rotten through some time yesterday and dropped the battery down onto a metal thingum with a sharp edge that cracked the bottom of the battery, so the acid in one cell had leaked out, interacted with the sharp metal edge, and the chemical reaction was eating up into the battery. That's why it was dead this morning and why a fire was imminent this afternoon. The battery holder, and the metal braces that hold it, were all eaten away. Honestly, neither of us knows how I got home. Like I said, Someone was watching out. Don went and got a new battery, and holder, and made new metal brackets for it and has it all fixed up now. Thank goodness he's handy about stuff like this or I'd have had to rent a car to get to work tomorrow.

If you EVER notice a weird, sulfury-metallic-acidy smell around your car, CHECK UNDER THE HOOD. If your battery seems to have shifted spontaneously, or the smell is stronger, or anything just feels weird, don't drive it. A car fire at 50 MPH could have been very very bad.

By the way, I'm a bad moblogger - it never even occured to me to take photos of the damage until the battery was gone and the new one was installed. I blame the cold, rainy yucky weather. Yes, Don fixed it out in the crap weather. He rocks.

My car is (really) made of fail :(

Let's play "How many times will I get pulled over tomorrow on the way to work?". Then we'll have a rousing game of "How many times will I get pulled over on the way home?". Don's been out there for half an hour now, he can't find the supposed exhaust leak. Fscking lazy ass mechanic didn't want to have to dyno the thing at the end of the day. Last time we go to that garage, I'll tell you true. Our real mechanic will hopefully be able to straighten this crap out Thursday.

Really failed. See comments. Fix in progress.
