Building without chopping trees

(viewed 859 times)
Laxman said nothing, just watched me, so I knew there was something I was
supposed to notice. There was a strange wooden column next to a concrete one...
In the Dalai Lama's monastery, the trunks of tall trees go through 2 floors to
'blossom' above the terrace. I saw other trees growing in or in very close
proximity to buildings, shaping their architecture.

Here: the same tree goes through floor one and two, but the terraced roof was
out of bounds to see the top.
Another wooded area.

Om Mani Padme Hum

(viewed 6628 times)
The temple at the Dalai Lama's monastery, monks doing their laundry nearby, and
carved and painted mantras.
It's so overwhelming, that I heard someone actually say: "oh, is he back here? I
thought he was in India."

Around Dharamsala

(viewed 673 times)
18 May. The nature around here is very beautiful. We manage to go for a walk
before the weather changes.

McCleodganj, from roof tops

(viewed 685 times)
16 May. Here we are. This is the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan
government in exile. It's a big mix, Tibetans, Himachal (local) people, and
foreign tourists in apparently equal numbers.

One more night on the train

(viewed 686 times)
Fortunately, it becomes easy to get a good night's sleep almost everywhere.
We arrive at 4.30am in the middle of nowhere, and get a taxi for the one-hour
ride to Dharamsala. I feel sea sick...

15 May. Off the train for a few hours. We hire a cheap room in an interesting hotel,
behind the cow, have a shower, and tour the terraces to watch the world go by.

Train, train, train

2 nights, one day. Laxman is growing a third arm, must be the food?
