First shot- my mum and her friend (late 80s- who would have guessed) on one of these Berlin lookout points. I found it very exciting as a child to go there and look over into the East- all the guards with their machine guns on the other side and the fact that it was all secret and forbidden gave it a scary but exciting touch. Knowing they didn't have bananas, kiwis or mangos over there always made me sad though. Back then I didn't know much about my own and my parents past in the East. I don't even know if I realized that the rest of my family lived there.
2nd shot is me (in pink) with my friend and her parents. Thinking about it it is quite astonishing that we were allowed to climb onto these towers to look over there, spray stuff on the wall and touch it- nobody cared. Attemptimg this on the other side would have resulted in immediate execution or at least imprisonment of course.
