The birds will come

All I have to do is wait. I'm very patient.

Urban exploration

(viewed 1773 times)
At the top of my street, at the entrance to Farnham Park, there's a small building almost entirely covered by climbing plants. I've walked past it most days for years, hardly giving it a thought. Then, back in May, somebody told me that if you push through the greenery you can find a broken door and get inside. Intrigued, I grabbed my Indiana Jones hat, whip and camera...

Decorating with flowers

(viewed 1406 times)
These flowers were in a small chapel at the top of Le Plateau de la Madeleine near Retournac, France.

Notre-Dame de France

The statue of Notre-Dame de France towers over Le Puy-en-Velay, an astounding structure made from cannons captured at the siege of Sebastapol. When I realised you can climb up inside the statue my day was made. See here for the other side of the story.

More from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy.

(viewed 1409 times)
These were taken at Easter at the Cathédral Notre-Dame du Puy in Le Puy-en-Velay. I loved the 12th-Century depiction of St. Catherine, complete with wheel. I was similarly struck by the statue of St. James (the cathedral is a starting point for the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela). Finally we have St. Jean Francis Regis, who appears to be patron saint of hand jive.

Three years

(viewed 1545 times)
My moblog is three years old today - hurrah! - but it's been a poor neglected thing lately. Work, travel, decorating and planning what to do after my impending redundancy have all been taking up my time and energy. It's not as though I haven't been taking pictures, I just haven't had time to do anything with them. All that is going to change, though. Brace yourselves for a couple of months worth of catching up...

(The three sparrows were sitting on wires outside my office last week. They're still young, flying but not quite feeding themselves. Their mum was flying around, catching insects and feeding her family. They'll need to build themselves up for the long journey ahead of them.)

Tour Series Woking

Practising panning, zooming and creative blurring at the Tour Series criterium in Woking this evening. Not all of the strange effects were intentional...
